Sharpton, 15 Marchers Arrested 500 Protest Police Brutality, Rally Outside Koch's Residence
NEW YORK — The Rev. Al Sharpton and 15 others were arrested yesterday when they attempted to cross the East River Drive during a march protesting local injustices to blacks. The arrests came about 5:20 p.m. as Sharpton, along with lawyers Alton Maddox Jr. and C. Vernon Mason, led about 500 people on a march from Harlem to a rally outside Gracie Mansion, the mayor's residence. After his arrest, Sharpton vowed to "agitate every week until we get (Mayor Edward) Koch out."
Somewhere on his headstone, it will most likely read, “How am I doing?”
I still remember the phrase, "Ed Koch eats quiche, but only because it's good for New York."

A liberal with sanity, indeed. Didn’t agree with him on everything, particularly gun control, but he said what he meant and meant what he said, eloquently and to the point at that. Gotta respect that. Given his love of NYC, it’s an interesting coincidence he passed away on the same day of the 100th anniversary of the opening of Grand Central Station.
