MANKATO, Minn. -
Senator Al Franken has lined up in support of a proposed assault weapons ban.
Like many on Capitol Hill, it was the mass murder of 26 people, including 20 children at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut that has led Senator Al Franken to get behind, and even offer amendments to a massive assault weapons ban being discussed in Congress.
"I believe in the 2nd Amendment. I believe people have the fundamental right to own a gun for hunting, for collection, for protection, for sport. I don't believe that the assault weapons are needed, we've seen so many of these tragedies."
The proposed bill also includes a ban on any magazine hold over ten rounds, and Franken is focusing on mental health treatment in amendments of his own.
Gun groups are fighting the bans, saying it could be a slippery slope toward a complete gun ban, citing the far smaller amount of deaths from guns designated as assault weapons, versus the more widely-owned hand guns.
Responding to that argument, Franken says, "As far as the slippery slope is concerned, we already ban machine guns, automatic weapons. This is about a very small subset of semi-automatic weapons. Your deer rifle is a semi-automatic rifle. [AR-15s] are not needed for hunting."
Franken signals support for assault weapons ban - January 17, 2013 - "I've always supported the Second Amendment rights of Minnesotans to own firearms for collection, protection, and sport. But I also think we need to find a balance between those rights and the safety of our children and our communities. I co-sponsored legislation to ban large clips like those used in so many mass shootings. I also support the principle that we should reinstate a ban on assault weapons, and I will carefully review any proposal to do that. We need to make sure we don't have weapons out there that are really designed for the battlefield, and not for hunting."
The fake senator shows fake support for the 2A.
Minnesota! Ain't you got any good sense any more??? Shazzam!!! I ashamed I graduated high school in your land of 10000 leeks!!!

I have an idea, Al. You contend that these semi-autos belong on the battlefield. You go to any Marine or army infantry unit, and offer to substitute these AR-15s you claim are "weapons of war" for their M4 carbines, or any other weapon they have. I'd be very surprised if you had more than ZERO takers! Because these are NOT weapons designed for battle. They're just rifles designed to LOOK LIKE military weapons. Sort of like claiming that hood scoops and racing stripes on a car makes it a racer which needs to be banned from city streets and highways!

Roughly 200 prisoners voted for Franken in 2008 in violation of the law.
Those votes allowed Franken to win.
And he’s worried about guns?
If he votes that way he will not be reelected.
Oh, the guy in the diapers and bunny ears who is not a real senator.
Franken supports the gun grab? Now there is a news flash!
....right....
Fixed it.
I sympathize. I am, unfortunately, originally from the great communist state of Illinois. What an absolute dreck of a state, politically speaking. At least they’ll get their comeuppance soon enough, just as soon as other people’s money runs out.
I’m a liar, a fool, a fraud, and I’m lower than whale s#it, and doggone it, people hate me!

About time. He needs to amend his mental health.

Stands to reason: “Make more people “criminals”, and it’ll increase my margin!”
I’m sure there are NO hunters or gun enthustiats in Minnesota.
Just a bunch of loons who elected this smarmy ass who represents Minnesota perfectly
How was this guy EVER in play? Oh yea, he wanted to get re-elected in 2014. Well he got what he needs, a Senate that still take 60 votes to advance legislation, so he can support grabbing guns, knowing that it will never pass.
Well.....maybe not so much. Minnesota is one of several states where a rural, conservative majority is dominated by the liberal politics of one large city:
Minnesota: Minneapolis-St. Paul
Illinois: Chicago
Pennsylvania: Philadelphia
New York: NYC
Washington: Seattle
Iowa: Des Moines (believe it or not)
I’m sure there are plenty of seething gun owners/hunters in Minnesota. Look at the crooked politics that got Franken elected.

Yes, there are,. However, there is also a good number of gun-owning libs who believe that no one “needs” an assault rifle or large-capacity magazines.
