Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Tuesday declined to voice support for Democratic legislation that would ban assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition clips.
Reid said he would bring gun-violence legislation to the floor and open it to a lengthy amendment process. But he declined to endorse the assault weapons ban introduced last week by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), which has the support of the 2nd- and 3rd-ranking Senate Democratic leaders.
Shes talked to me about her assault weapons. The new one. She believes in it fervently and I admire her for that. Ill take a look at that, he said in response to a reporter's question. Were going to have votes on all kinds of issues dealing with guns and I think everyone would be well advised to read the legislation before they determine how theyre going to vote [on] it.
Feinsteins bill would ban the sale and manufacture of more than 150 types of semi-automatic weapons, including handguns with fixed magazines capable of holding more than 10 bullets.
Republicans have raised doubts that Reid will even bring gun-control legislation to the Senate floor. Reid helped defeat an effort five years ago to renew the federal assault weapons ban, which expired in 2004.
Reid dispelled the GOP speculation.
He said he has told his colleagues he will do everything in his power to bring legislation dealing with guns and violence, generally, to the floor.
Reid said that Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) has told the Democratic caucus his plans for holding hearings on gun violence.
Leahy has introduced legislation to help prosecutors crack down on straw purchasers of firearms later used in crimes.
Saw some at the gun show in Tulsa last weekend, at a wildly inflated price, and not in quantities previously available. Difficult to impossible to reliably find on line. Heck, even .22LR and .22 Mag are in short supply, especially bulk pack. Wannamaker's (a BIG gun show) is coming up in April, so we'll have to see what things look like then.
“Ammo in military calibers (.223/5.56, .308/7.62x51, 9mm) has VANISHED.”
Not only that, there wasn’t a single round of .22 LR available today at my local Gander Mountain, which advertises itself as “Tennessee’s largest gun store.”
Yep, you make a valid point. I guess the reason I’m skeptical is that he’s been in bed with Obama on everything, maybe this will be different.
I understand. I like shooting my weapons and teaching my wife on each one is fun but the price is not! I hope she knows how to handle each one by now, as we are in stock up ammo mode now!
What is a weapon if not designed for assault? We are living in the Age of the Disenlightenment..
In the end, Reid is a coward. She refuses to be true to her party’s core beliefs if it will result in her defeat.
Reid wears granny panties.
Reids camp attempted to put the best face on the snub, noting that the campaign has already received a $4,000 donation from the NRA.
The NRAs relationship with Sen. Reid has been long-standing and productive and unlike for Sharron Angle theyve put their money where their mouth is this cycle, said Reid campaign manager Brandon Hall. Along with their financial support, the declaration of NRA head Wayne LaPierre that Sen. Reid is a true champion of the Second Amendment and that no one has been a stronger advocate for responsible gun ownership than him shows beyond a doubt that the NRA believes Sen. Reid to be a strong advocate for Nevadans Second Amendment rights in the U.S. Senate.

Dingy knows which side of the bread has butter on it. He isn’t going to bring this POS uncontitutional bill to the floor of the Senate to have it defeated or to force the poor Dem slobs who are up for re-election in 2014 to vote for it and screw their election chances.
“100 rounds of 32 APC”
32 APC.... :P Would that be the only gun mounted on that vehicle..?
I was at a gun show in Rochester NY a few weeks ago. There was a guy selling 200 round battle packs of 7.62x51 for $200. That’s a buck a round. Ouch. I should have invested in ammo back when you could get a case of 1000 from the Sportsman’s Guide for about $130. This is why I will never be rich. Only my hindsight is 20/20. My financial foresight is closer to Ray Charles.
I’ll say it again. The entire gun banning excersize is FAKE. If the liberals can get something to stick, fine. But the main goal is go divide the republican party and then demonize them going into the midterm elections when someone shoots the next Trayvon Martin.
It’s a trap. Hussein Obama wants to tighten the noose around our necks even more and he needs to control both houses of congress to do it.
That is the evidence that this is all a ruse and that the point is to paint the Republicans as gun-mongering child killers when some poor innocent soul is gunned down near the mid-term elections. The dems don’t care about any damn guns people! EVERTHING is politics to them!!!
Nice lookin piece there.
I like C&R weapons.
It Has a seven round Mag. and my wife likes firing it, she is good. The picture I posted above is a stock picture from a PDF of the history of this Mauser’s history. The one we own is in much, much better shape. I have it’s original holster and two original magazines. Wish I could find a couple of more Mags. My Father acquired it sometime in WWII and left it to me.
