A tipsy Italian tourist tried to stiff a tony East Side steakhouse on his tab before his NYPD-assisted arrivederci, police sources said Friday.
Graziano Graziussi, who spend the night in jail after a dispute at Smith & Wollensky, was carrying $118 in his wallet on the night when he challenged the $208 check, said NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly.

Whats a “tony” steakhouse?
Maybe he thought that since Obama got re-elected, that no one has to pay for anything any more? (The government will pay for everything)
A restaurant that charges $208 for a steak I guess.
“Whats a tony steakhouse?”

“tony” is a pretty outdated term for high or upper class.
I have not heard it used in many years.
So did the shlub forget his wallet or didn’t he want to pay? The media has made S&W out to be the bad guy in this matter. Another example of the media’s fine reporting standards.
“Tony” means if you don’t pay up, a guy named Tony will be out to reason with you.
(I can make that joke; I’m half Italian).
Tony Soprano’s cousin from Texas.
From this article, it sounds like he had his wallet on him and just didn't want to pay - although the wording could be clearer. If he just tried to stiff the restaurant and lied to the media, as well, I hope he gets booted from the US and denied future entry for his trouble.
I don’t care how good the steaks are, they aren’t worth that much.
Yup, no way a steak n taters dinner is worth that much.
He shoulda went to someplace like Outback or Western Sizzlin.
Ruth’s Criss is great! (perhaps a tad high-priced)
Which half?
I simply did not want to pay the one time I went to an Outback Steakhouse because it was such a total rip-off.
Of course I payed and never went back.
There were 2 people at the table so about $100 per and much of that is likely wine. Steak houses in NYC median steak is around 30/35 bucks.
The tourist’s response of forgetting his wallet is on the level of a kid saying a dog ate his report card.
tony= any place that would look askance as the likes of yours truly entered the premises. No riffraff allowed.
I like my steaks median well...how much do they go for in Manhattan?
“Tony” steakhouses in NYC won’t cook one above a median, lol. If you insist they”ll butterfly it. Pretty well ruined.
If you decide to go to S&W, it’s the *whole experience* you are paying for. Besides the fact that they have the best aged steaks anywhere in the city. Also part of that *experience* is the waitstaff.
This tourist was out of his league. He would have been happier at Patsi’s or Peter Luger.
I thought he forgot his wallet, thats what all the other stories say.
