National Democrats are taking steps to create a large-scale independent group aimed at turning traditionally conservative Texas into a prime electoral battleground, crafting a new initiative to identify and mobilize progressive voters in the rapidly-changing state, strategists familiar with the plans told POLITICO.
The organization, dubbed Battleground Texas, plans to engage the states rapidly growing Latino population, as well as African-American voters and other Democratic-leaning constituencies that have been underrepresented at the ballot box in recent cycles. Two sources said the contemplated budget would run into the tens of millions of dollars over several years - a project Democrats hope has enough heft to help turn what has long been an electoral pipe dream into reality.
At the center of the effort is Jeremy Bird, formerly the national field director for President Barack Obamas reelection campaign, who was in Austin last week to confer with local Democrats about the project.

that’s happening anyhow as U-hauls bearing Californians continue to unload there.
amnesty for illegal aliens + instant voter registration = not as registration as you may think.
What are the demographics of Texas, and what are they projected to be in four years?
That’s a lot easier said than done.
Oh, the "rapidly growing Latino population" that helped elect TEA Party supported candidate TED CRUZ to the u.S. Senate?
OK.
.
Demographics are destiny.
As the 3rd World invades, they need Government to survive, and the Dems in Austin and DC are more than happy to take stolen tax dollars to support them, in exchange for a vote or ten.
I know Texas is different, but so was CA 40 years ago and now it’s an unmitigated Socialist disaster with $100K per year + COLA’s, fully healthcare-insured state workers start piling up, asking for more and more tax dollars to fulfill money they never saved or invested.
We are on a path that there will be two conclusions:
1. A drastic cut in everyone’s lifestyle (see Greece and Spain) where austerity will hit the old first, then Government, and crime and chaos will reign.
2. Civil War, where the inner city and immigrant takers will try to repatriate the money they are “owed” by the wealthy.
Either way, it gets real, real ugly. Hyperinflation. Civil unrest. SHTF. Be ready.
We need every conservative possible to be here in Texas with us. This has been predicted for a few years;;;masses of illegals; tons of college students; left over Katrina transplants. That is all going to bite Texas in the butt soon if we don’t stay strong!
Watch that Castro guy in San Antonio...he was the darling of the Dem Convention
Confused say.
He who advertise the greenest grass, end up with sheep.
I look at this situation as a great opportunity for Texans to teach Democrats about the Constitution.
What are the demographics of Texas, and what are they projected to be in four years?
4 year old map. But accurate for now. And probably 4 years from now.
Which is why people from California moving to Texas (or anywhere else) should be required to register with the state. These people should not be able to vote for at least 5 years as part of a cooling off period.
Texas can not be allowed to fall like California, seriously think of the ramifications.
This would be cash cow for any motivated Freepers to start a business to “help” the Dems invest their plunder in our state. It could be run after the Republican consultant model with same results. Everyone wins!
It’s called “amnesty”.
Darn it. I can’t make working link to save my life. Copy and paste everything but the “Try this” and you’ll see some official Texas demographic info. Hope this helps.
“What are the demographics of Texas, and what are they projected to be in four years?”
Not really sure.
What I am sure about is that you cannot judge on the basis of pure demographics alone.
1. Just because there are a lot of Hispanics here doesn’t mean they are liberal. Texas just elected a Hispanic Senator, only the second ever elected and both are conservative and Republican.
2. Texas is no California. California has always been a trendy place where the “beautiful” people live and direct their misery to the rest of the populace. Texas by contrast has always been a bastion of rugged individualism, caused by its history of being its own state, its vast size, and its lack of federal interference, represented by the very low ownership of federald lands when it became a state.
This I believe is a distraction as the Dems wish the GOP to invest time and energy to defend Texas in future elections rather than to go to other battleground states.
