Every freedom loving home in America should have one of these rifles.

Do we need our primitive weapons?
2009 Nobel Peace Prize nominee Jim Garrow shockingly claims he was told by a top military veteran that the Obama administrations litmus test for new military leaders is whether or not they will obey an order to fire on U.S. citizens.

Ruger 10/22 seem to have a never ending list of after-market kits and part.

Meh
Crappy design when it comes to bolt hold-open and mag release. Plenty of suppressors available tho.

I agree. The grab and go gun is the Ruger 10/22 (bull barrel tactical). The ARs, the 9mms, the 308s, the 45s, etc. etc. can stay home.
To: Perseverando
If you only own 1 gun, own this 1 (Ruger 10/22)
Darn!
I have seven guns, but not the 10/22.
I guess I can't get one, then....
Oh, well.

Put a big scope on a 10-22 and you can aggravate varmints way out there.

Excellent choice if there can only be one. I just picked up a 10/22 take down and couldn't be happier.

Here is a test of 22LR where the round completely penetrated a whole turkey wrapped in 3 layers of denim (3 in, 3 out) at 250 yards.
22LR Test
That's not just "better than nothing" it's pretty damn good if you can't afford something bigger. ~$225 at Walmart, ~$300 for the take down.

I think I would choose a high quality 12 gauge auto or pump shotgun but I think the 10/22 is also a good choice.

I’m a bit dubious of the .22lr as a self defense cartridge. While it certainly can kill someone, it doesn’t tend to do it in a really timely fashion. It’s more of a bleed out kind of round.

I bought one last Friday to go with my Marlin 60. Unfortunately, you can’t find a single bullet anywhere in East Texas except shotgun shells, deer cartridges, and a few obscure pistol rounds.

I received a Ruger 10/22 for my 12th birthday! No background check, no nothin! I love that gun, but wouldn’t rely on it for security.
The next year I walked to the local hardware store in my little village and bought my own Mossberg 20 gauge c-lect choke, again with no background check or anything.
Oh lordy, how have I survived so far!

If I was limited to just 1 gun, I would want it to be a 12ga pump shotgun. Or a 30-06. With reloads you could load it down to the power level of your 10/22. It’s hard to pick just one. They’re just tools. Just like hammers. Pick the right one for the job at hand.

I cast my vote for the M-1 Garand.

Great gun if you’re 12 years old.
