After coming to America, the singer found himself living in Los Angeles at 28-years-old. "Drugs had taken my life away from me," Bowie says, "I felt as though I would probably die and it was going to be all over." Bowie credits his assistant, Coco, for getting him out of that life. "Best advice, which I wish I had known at 18? Don't do drugs."

Iggy Pop says the same thing about being introduced to heroin by a “friend”.
In the 1970s, it was Bowie who rejuvenated Iggy Pop’s career and may have saved his life.

What does he think of marijuana?

I heard a track from Bowie’s new record yesterday. Sounds pretty good. Very grown up - good for him

“What does he think of marijuana?”
Maybe as a gateway drug?

“Drugs had taken my life away from me”
No! You freely gave your life to drugs. You individually made the choice. Just like a gun does not take a life, the individual chooses to use the gun to take a life. We all live with the life choices we make, good or bad.

Best advice? Don’t do drugs because they make you a transvestite and make you sleep with Mick Jagger.

I watched it on Youtube when it was “announced”. Loved it. Brought tears to my eyes ... almost, anyway. I had LIFE ON MARS running through my head for the next three days.

The sixties and 70s were a screwed up time. I lived though it and like being at Woodstock, I don’t remember much. I guess Bowie found out the same thing...you can’t burn the candle at both ends or you’ll wind up like (pick one. Hendrix, Morrison, Jollin, ad nauseum)

Weed is being more accepted now and on the verge of being legal. That is the #1 screwing up drug there is. And nowadays nobody cares that much. Use has declined anyone’s interest in things really. Look at the space program, entertainment, everything. Very dulled out now.

Bowie is odd but one heck of a theatrical performer.

He was the perfect Pilate in Last Temptation of Christ. And Labrynth was great too with him.

I saw him once and it was amazing. SRV played guitar on that tour. What a performance.

Weed can not only make one not give a s**t about doing anything productive but can cause psychosis in certain individuals.
Not the recreational drug it is made out to be.

Amen. Both men are geniuses in their own way. Every time I look at Iggy, I’m amazed that wonderful voice comes out of that body.
