Las Vegas police were searching for answers Tuesday after one of their own killed his wife and son, called 911 to confess, then set his house on fire and committed suicide as rifle-toting cops moved in.
"I can't think of a reason for this, where something can get so bad that you'd do this," one veteran supervisor told the Las Vegas Review-Journal after the Monday murder-suicide.
Police have not released the name of the shooter but said he was a 52-year-old lieutenant with more than 20 years on the force. His wife was a retired officer, the newspaper said. Their son was about seven years old.

>>This just proves that nobody except agents of the feral government should have access to guns.
And then there’s the classic on that:
it was that or donut-toting.
How would such a plan have saved this cop's family?
>>> Surely the weapon he used falls in one of this category
How can you miss the gasoline container under AK-47?
A pity the wife wasn’t armed.
Very likely, the wife planned to leave with their son and either (a) told her husband or (b) he found out.
I wouldn’t be surprised to discover there was a history of spousal and/or child abuse in that family.
Cops have it rough. No one calls the police because they’re having a good day.
Imagine being the first person to walk into that classroom in Sandy Hook!
This story is impossible to believe. As I have learned 100 times over here on FR, cops are your friend, they never break the law, they are to be blindly worshiped, they have hard jobs so must be given a pass for any transgressions, and we just don’t have the full story yet, wait for the other side. It might take her awhile to give it though. </sarc>
“Cops have it rough.”
And for 99.999% of other occupations, people would not respond to a post about a murder-suicide by making the remark that [people in occupation] have it rough.
How tragic that you would implicitly justify and defend the crime committed per your post.
He had family members to shoot instead. (Which is what the practice of “shoot the dog” is training them for—shooting their fellow Americans with as little mercy as this poor woman and her child were shown).
Absent a gun..... he would have thrown them out of a three story building..
poison and ‘nives work too.. drowning, strangling, and hammars can suffice..
BUT.... its guns that stupid women and devious men fixate on..
WOMEN?... you know Oprah watchers.. Ellen DeGenerous fans..
Jersey Shore cretins... David Letterman donkeys..
Was he wearing the scary mirrored glasses when he did it?
Every time something of note occurs involving a member of the law enforcement community, the media outlets here, it seems, can't wait to use the phrase.
Just exactly what is that supposed to mean?
**** “Just exactly what is that supposed to mean?” *****
Easy ... “Some animals are more equal than others”

NBC left out
“Brewer said he heard a person yell, “I did not do this,” as authorities circled the house, but he wasn’t sure who spoke”

For cryin' out loud, PUT THAT LIE TO REST. Please.
I've lived in Las Vegas for 37+ years. I followed the story. The guy was higher than a kite on drugs and acting erratically.
"Error of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left free to combat it." -- Thomas Jefferson
Or, he found out another cop was the son’s father...
The reporter's real interest ~ the evil SUV was still sitting there smoking ~ enjoying what it'd just done ~ all that fine particulate matter and CO2 going skyward to pollute and destroy.
Prayers for the family.
How in the world do you get to 52 years old and decide it’s not worth it? Sad, sad situation, all politics aside.
The officers @ Costco were in their 20s.

Thank you.
Did they ever find his girlfriend? She apparently was the one who helped him get his prescription drugs illegally, and then dragged him out in public against his own judgement. I think his family's lawyer sent her out of the country.
