Beyoncé did not sing the national anthem live at President Obamas inauguration.
Millions of viewers around the world were stunned by the singers spectacular rendition of the anthem but The Times has learnt that she was lip-syncing to a pre-recorded backing track.
A spokeswoman for the Marine Corp Band Kristen DuBois said it was standard procedure to record a backing track and Beyoncé decided shortly before her performance to rely on the studio version rather

Oh no doubt.
Whnever I hear any sort of heavily synthesized voice, it’s an automatic no listen for me.
This pretty much rules out any form of hip hop or popular lusic these days, which I must say is no loss at all for me.
I remember the first person I recall hearing whose voice was so heavily altered by electronics was Janet Jackson, and it’s gotten much worse since then.
Correction to Post 40 above.
I have it on what I believe is good authority that Beyonce insisted on using the pre-recorded band track with her voice laid over it rather than having the band play live.
We’ll see if that is the case.
If I were working with the Marine Band, I would follow their lead and work with them -— not call the shots. “We” have placed these “stars” on such a level that they are above us all. Consider what happened when she had her baby, and to protect her from the riffraff, many Fathers were not allowed on that maternity floor to visit their new-borns. Sigh.
Scuttlebutt is that Kelly Clarkson was a gem to work with - very cooperative and appreciative.
The arrangement of each piece was composed by the band arrangers (they have a couple on staff) to fit the style requests of the singers. These arrangements might require several versions to get one that suits the singer. It’s a long back and forth process.
I believe the Kelly Clarkson model is the norm in these situations.
But in the end, the band serves at the behest of the President and if the President requests a specific performer for an event, the band is the accompaniment and takes a back seat.
They are loyal Marines and consummate professionals. They realize and recognize the higher honor and duty to which they are called. If a member doesn’t consistently meet those standards, his/her days are numbered.

Thanks for that link. I have such respect for the Marine Corps Band. I place them above Sousa when I think of bands.
I see that Kelly Clarkson didn’t resort to lip-syncing. A couple of talk radio shows are falling over themselves defending Beyonce, but never mention Clarkson.
