Barack Obamas top political aide used an Inauguration Day interview to sketch out a provocative political strategy intended to split the Republican Party in time to impact the 2014 midterm elections.
The barrier to progress here in many respects, whether it is deficits, measures to help economy, immigration, gun safety legislation is [that] there are factions here in Congress, Republicans in Congress, who are out of the mainstream, White House advisor David Plouffe said on CNNs State of the Union with Candy Crowley.
We need more Republicans in Congress to think like Republicans in the country who are seeking compromise, seeking balance, he claimed.

He is doing a damn good job, seeing all the division among even conservatives here on FR.
“I’m a real conservative because x and you y!”
“Never vote for x he/she is a RINO”
“etc.”
He shouldn’t bother. We’re already doing it to ourselves.
There is still a Republican Party? Didn’t know, as they seem uber-compliant inside the beltway.
The Republican Party itself (GOPE) is splitting the party into warring factions and doesn’t need Obama’s help to achieve it
All he need do is nothing. Republicans will exuberantly do the job for him.
He doesn’t have to. The party has done a good job of fragmenting all by itself.
That has already happened, but he did not do it, the GOP did.
There are no leaders in the GOP with the will and political savvy to effectively oppose the Rats agenda.
you’re not reading what I’m reading, then. You’re proving my point.
Everybody, please understand this:
The 2010 Midterms took the Dems by suprise.
They will be out in full force this time.
We can’t make any assumptions that commonsense will prevail.
They have the same ground game and certainly will get the money that will make this Midterm the most costly in history.
This is the prize.
If they win the Congress, and pick up a few more in the Senate, we are toast.
There will be noting that will stop this madness. Including a move to allow for a third term.
Mostly Obama is trying to distract from the leviathan. Without the grossly oversized federal government, none of those other issues matter at all.
He's taking Bush's lead.
RINOs aint conservative and that`s mine. jeeez
Exactly and if the moderates don’t like it they can go moderate the party that actually needs it.
Define mainstream, Pluffy...my way or the highway? Eff that!
I hope that R conference got the ball(s) rolling. We’ll know in a a week or two if they’ve got anything going.
Already happening. No need for Obama to do anything. Started in full-force right after the 2010 mid-terms, when the GOP-E started treating the grassroots/tea-party/Palin crowd like absolute trash.
Good grief, not even allowing the very words “tea party” to be uttered during the GOP convention! Unbelievable.
That’s because we argue about issues that don’t really matter. As long as the federal government is enormous and all-powerful it doesn’t matter what anyone thinks about abortion because Planned Parenthood will get their 1/2 billion and spend millions electing whoever they want. Go down the list and every issue that we disagree on is moot once the Federal government is shrunk.
