Paul Ryan, the Republican vice presidential nominee in the last election, was booed at President Barack Obama's Second Inauguration today in Washington, D.C.
"If things had gone differently in November, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) might have departed the Capitol on Monday as the vice president of the United States. Instead, he faced a chorus of boos as he left the building to attend President Barack Obama's second inauguration ceremony," reports the Huffington Post.
The left-leaning website reports that Ryan attended the Inauguration out of duty. "Ryan announced last week that he would be present for Obama's public swearing in at the Capitol, calling it his 'obligation.'"
Ryan is chairman of the House Budget Committee.
UPDATE: Here's Ryan's statement on Obama's Inauguration:
"I congratulate President Obama on his inauguration, and I join the country in celebrating this American tradition.
"The president and I were political opponents. We had strong disagreements over the direction of the countryas we still do now. But today, we put those disagreements aside. Today, we remember what we share in common.
"We serve the same country, one that is still in need of repairand is still the freest on earth. We serve alongside men and women from both parties, who govern in good faith and good will. Finally, we serve the same people, who have honored us with their charge.
Paul Ryan shows himself to be loyal to the elites of D.C.
Nothing worse than watching so called Conservatives effuse obsequiousness.
The left is truly out to destroy our Republic and this fools shows up to this farce. Pathetic.
MANY
So a billion dollar campaign featuring the chants "Romney doesn't pay taxes" and "Romney will let your wife die of cancer" had nothing to do with it.
But I guess the geriatric Keyboard Kommandos out there, risking nothing, know more than Ryan does...and are busy destroying any opposition to Bambi. Way to go, Keyboard Kommandos!
Amen!
For a contingent of FReepers, no politician will ever be 'conservative' enough. It's apparently the nature of political websites that some discontented posters just want to rant and find fault with everything and everyone. Politics being a complicated business that frustrates the perpetually angry, cogency is abandoned for the pouting and insult which come too easily to some. The vacuousness they represent cannot taken be too seriously when you realize that no human being on earth could ever be conservative enough to satisfy these folks. So let them rant as they will - and ignore the cranky proclivities that seem to be symptomatic of, not just the geriatric, but the irredeemably discontented in every generation.
what on earth does being second on a ticket and losing a questionable election have to do with letting down the country????? He knows where he is, at the inauguration of the President of the United States......not the right president, but the president nonetheless.
No, but a billion dollar minus one campaign that wouldn't fight back in kind did.
I'd have preferred to hear a reply like "I'm disappointed that the president chose this solemn event to continue his partisan attacks on his opponents. If he can't set aside his animosity today, how can we expect to work with him tomorrow in good faith?"
Punch back, anywhere and everywhere that Obama does.

I agree. He had courage to step up and run and seems to be a very decent man. I hope Congressman Ryan has a long and respectable career in the public square. Some people respect a batter who only gets on base 1/3 of the time, but expect their politicians to be 100% in tune with them on issues, strategy and charm, or they are derided as not good enough.

Not so clear to me. Have you looked at his record?
Ryan is a member of the GOP elite. He, like the rest, will take whatever position furthers his ambitions, not what is good for the people he is supposed to represent. Why do you think he endorsed Romney for president? He was looking for that VP nomination. Looks good on his resume
Why do get the sickening feeling that some of you posters are people who stayed home in a sulk on election day. If you didn’t vote for Romney/Ryan on November 6, you are unworthly of living in the same country as Paul Ryan.
Ryan is very good and he’s about 100% smarter and more strategic than anybody here, including the bloviating Rush doing his “show prep” (since Rush has bunches of bucks and has never held an elected or decision making position in his entire life).
If you want to criticize one of Ryan’s positions, point it out and send him an e-mail.
If you don’t support anybody because you’re too pure and can’t find a candidate who meets your criteria...then go back to being a Keyboard Kommando, who accomplishes nothing except venting his spleen.
You may not agree with him or anybody else on every point (and neither do I), but you have to support him on the things with which you can agree. Otherwise, we’ll be out there pointing the gun at our own heads because nobody is pure enough for us.
Let's see, Ryan voted for No Child Left Behind, Medicare Part-D, ethanol subsidies.
Yea, principled Conservatives would cast such votes -- Not.
Our Republic is in peril. So called leaders like Ryan have no clue to the reality that must be faced to restore our Republic.
Ryan is at most a Conservative leaning technocrat. Ryan has no true love of Liberty or limited government as part of his DNA.
Huh?
Sarah Palin did that too.....but she still seems O.K. to me!!!!!!!
I agree. Some Freepers remind me of the wandering Jews in search of some Conservative superman. I believe Ryan is a pragmatist and a class act. Phooey on those booing dems.
Criticism accepted. Let me make amends “Bowl floating, societal refuse requiring a double flush to put them back into the sewer from whence they sprang.” Better?
If we want to know why we lost the last time around, look at the posters here. We have to sort out what’s important and what’s not, what’s the fundamental position of a candidate and what can be changed by popular pressure, but nobody here seems to believe they can change anything or work for anything.
Why should any US candidate for any position care about people who spend their days firing off outraged communications on a closed internet site without ever actually finding a candidate pure enough for them to support or work for? Do they think that gives them some kind of clout in choosing the next candidate?
Hint: it doesn’t.
OH PLEASE......PATHETIC
OK, you’re totally pure, but you can still pick the part of his program that you can agree with and support him on that.
Otherwise, get yourself some backers and run as sand88 in the next election. Lots o’ luck.
Thanks for the laugh. It's sad people put elites like Ryan on a pedestal.
Please, tell me how Ryan and other GOP in D.C. have moved our Republic one micro-meter towards Liberty?
We need leaders with a Warrior mentality, ones that will use every tool at their disposal to thwart the evil efforts of the left.
The cold reality is that government is accelerating in it's power and control. Ryan and others never indicate the severity of the problem and how the left is seeking absolute control.
He speaks like a technocrat, more worried about "process" than facing evil.
Ryan is strategic?? That is the most ridiculous thing I heard in a good while. Please tell me just one aspect of Ryan's "brilliant" strategy.
The best from this fool I have seen is cuts 10 years out.
The Obamabots hate Americans. This is typical of freeloader Obama trash.
