Young, single ladies: America is worried about you. You just keep going to college, moving to urban areas after graduation and finding yourselves outnumbering, sometimes dramatically, the available men of your demographic. How will you ever get married? How will you ever go from being the subject of one kind of magazine cover to being the subject of another?
Clearly the best thing to do is stay back on the farm to live in a male-dense rural area, where the marriageable boys are there for your picking. Or it was, until Tuesday, when an enterprising New York Times journalist named John Eligon reported on a small oil town in North DakotaAn Oil Town Where Men Are Many, And Women Are Hounded, per the headline. There are 1.6 single men for every single woman in Williston, and Eligon found out that the lopsided gender ratio is less a great opportunity for the ladies than it is a stifling and scary environment.

I agree. You are funny. Manly men just are. There is no fashion magazine or someone telling them to “hang” something over their shoulder. Please I just need a real man not a prop.
“What the hell would a guy be doing with a sweater in the first place”
Using it to conceal a handgun in a ‘business casual’ work environment of course. No, it won’t ever be “draped”. Sport coats, photog vests, and untucked shirts just don’t work in the back office.
These words set off my fake news/plagerism alerts in my head. A New York writer goes to red North Dakota and all he finds is evil? How...expected. This is like the fake news story, by whom I can't remember, about republican delegates who abused women at the 2000 convention. (Jayson Blair?)
Between giving the benefit of the doubt to North Dakotans or New York Times journalists, my instinct is to go with the North Dakotans.
Sad but true.
This is just so much drama and crap about Williston. The boom will end and things will change again. Not worth writing about.
It is all only unusual to the creeps who think milk comes from a carton and there are far more of those now. Good, they’ll die off first.
thanks MinorityRepublican.

I misread this: I thought it meant that the man was to thoughtfully drape a lady’s sweater over her shoulders. Men used to do things like that when ladies were cold. I remember my father doing that for my mother and my grandfather doing it for my grandmother (they still adored each other after fifty years).
I learned this cuz Matt Lauer knew what they were, and every single other guy on the news set had NO IDEA.
I think this means we're both straight and we'd be OK in North Dakota... ;)
OOOO, OOO, OOO! A new word!! Misandrist! I am going to use that a lot! I really had never heard it before.

It’ll come in handy the way things are going in our nation.
