The Hitler gun control lie

This week, people were shocked when the Drudge Report posted a giant picture of Hitler over a headline speculating that the White House will proceed with executive orders to limit access to firearms. The proposed orders are exceedingly tame, but Drudges reaction is actually a common conservative response to any invocation of gun control.
The NRA, Fox News, Fox News (again), Alex Jones, email chains, Joe the Plumber Wurzelbacher, Gun Owners of America, etc., all agree that gun control was critical to Hitlers rise to power. Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership (Americas most aggressive defender of firearms ownership) is built almost exclusively around this notion, popularizing posters of Hitler giving the Nazi salute next to the text: All in favor of gun control raise your right hand.
In his 1994 book, NRA head Wayne LaPierre dwelled on the Hitler meme at length, writing: In Germany, Jewish extermination began with the Nazi Weapon Law of 1938, signed by Adolf Hitler.
And it makes a certain amount of intuitive sense: If youre going to impose a brutal authoritarian regime on your populace, better to disarm them first so they cant fight back.
Unfortunately for LaPierre et al., the notion that Hitler confiscated everyones guns is mostly bogus. And the ancillary claim that Jews could have stopped the Holocaust with more guns doesnt make any sense at all if you think about it for more than a minute.

It seems that we have struck a nerve among the lefties. I know this article is old, but I didn't find it previously posted (I tried a search by title). I post this for an example of the sort of arguments that the Left shall attempt to use against us in conversation. I know a hard left individual who has recently been trumpeting this article as if it provides for him a complete refutation of any claims that Hitler was a gungrabber.

The Politico is lying again. The 1968 GCA was modeled after the 1938 Nazi Weapons Control Act. It Sen. Thomas Dodd (D-CT) was heavily involved in writing the 1968 GCA and he used HIS copy of the 1938 Act as his source document.

“Gun Controls” Nazi Connection
Startling evidence suggests that the Gun Control Act of 1968
was lifted, almost in its entirety, from Nazi legislation.

Correction: Salon vice Politico.

The law did prohibit Jews and other persecuted classes from owning guns, but this should not be an indictment of gun control in general. Does the fact that Nazis forced Jews into horrendous ghettos indict urban planning? What kind of murder-minded totalitarian could make that statement with a straight face? Oh, a University of Chicago law professor.

Well, I thought about it but it still makes sense to me.
It might not have stopped the Holocaust but it sure would
have made the price higher and it sure would have saved
Jewish lives.

The left has a problem here. Sen. Thomas Dodd gave us the Gun Control Act of 1968 in the hysterical “do something” aftermath of the assainations of MLK and RFK. But he didn’t formulate the law, he just had it translated from German. The Nazi’s had already written it for him.

Does the fact that Nazis forced Jews into horrendous ghettos indict urban planning? That is an interesting question in the context of 0bama policies.
Obama's "community organizing" left Chicago neighborhoods in ruins.
Grim proving ground for Obama's housing policy"About 99 of the units are vacant, many rendered uninhabitable by unfixed problems, such as collapsed roofs and fire damage. Mice scamper through the halls. Battered mailboxes hang open. Sewage backs up into kitchen sinks. In 2006, federal inspectors graded the condition of the complex an 11 on a 100-point scale - a score so bad the buildings now face demolition."

Sure just like Romney making up lies about Mali oh wait that was true. The left will twist and turn everything to the side they want. I am afraid of Obama and his regime I really think he wants to kill everyone who does not agree with him just like his friend Bill Ayers did. I am serious

Notice how the author completely glosses over the fact that those who were targetd for execution were the folks who were barred from having firearms.

And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?... The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If...if...We didn't love freedom enough. And even more we had no awareness of the real situation.... We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward. ― Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn

the ancillary claim that Jews could have stopped the Holocaust with more guns doesnt make any sense at all if you think about it for more than a minute. That would depend a lot on target selection. Running out in the street to face off with a squad of soldiers with your bolt action rifle wouldn't work out too well. But that's not the only thing you can do with a bolt action rifle.

Terrific insight from a man who suffered much. I have shared this quote often over the years.
