WASHINGTON (AP) -- The number of Americans seeking unemployment aid plummeted to a five-year low last week, a hopeful sign the job market may be improving. But much of the decline reflects seasonal volatility in the data.
Weekly unemployment benefit applications fell 37,000 to a seasonally adjusted 335,000, the Labor Department said Thursday. That's the lowest level since January 2008, just after the recession began. The four-week average, a less volatile measure, fell to 359,250.

Just more people giving up each month even trying to find a job...remember these dumb asses include people that have fallen off unemployment in their unemployment reduction totals.
It doesn’t mean more people have jobs!
Their unemployment expired and they can’t collect it anymore - DUH!
Am I crazy is is this just outrageously mendacious? They have seasonal adjustments. They always have. Winter comes at a regular time. Christmas is the same day each year. They have these seasonal adjustments built in so that the data from 2013 can be compared to the data from 2004.
Yes, I know they fudge seasonal adjustments, and I don't really trust them -- now they seem to go a step further. Now they say that comparing this apple to that apple is rather pointless because of seasonal volatility over the past 5 years.
Stats aren't supposed to work that way unless there is no shred of truth to any of it. Which is probably the case.
They’ve had time to work the system on SNAP, TANF, Section 8, ObamaPhones, EITC, WICs and on and on and on and on....they don’t need no UIC....they got a job now....an Obama Voter! They din’t waste no time...them commercials about SSDI, SSI, etc. from all them lawyers who’ll hep them get what they deserve have worked.
stupid is as stupid does
Kinda' tough to make an initial claim for unemployment benefits if you are collecting it already (or stopped collecting it).
When all jobs are eliminated and unemployment insurance runs out, zero new applicants will be counted. WooHoo! Hail King Obama!
