A “National Day of Service”, as you call it, is a back-handed swat at all Americans that put their lives on the line for other Americans, on a daily basis.
We have paid union street-sweepers, unless you are alluding to all the dear old “babuskas”, as they would be sweeping Red Square, in Moscow, in Russia. We already have home-fixers, too, and they are called Habitat for Humanity, which if I recall, another infamous Democrat President gave his time.
Your “National Day of Service” is an affront, as you are, to me.

A “Day” of service? Wow, mighty White of them. Salvation Army is 24/7. Bread of Life is 5 days a week. Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis, LIONS, Rotary/sarc....

These people in government are using it as their generational welfare program. The government gives them a paycheck, healthcare, perks - same as regular welfare except a lot more money involved.
