NEW YORK -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world's largest retailer and the nation's largest private employer, is making a pledge to hire every recently discharged veteran who wants a job.
The plan is set to be announced as part of an address delivered in New York on Tuesday at the annual retail industry convention by Bill Simon, president and CEO of Wal-Mart's namesake U.S. business.

Wal-Mart made the national statement that they are falling in line with obozo as it pertains to guns and ammo. Do not give them any of your business, and let's write to the company to tell them what we will no longer be doing where their store is concerned and EXACTLY WHY. Any and all
opportunities to lash back at companies such as these must be taken advantage of. So, let's have at it!
You can’t trust anyone all the time. Wal-mart has denied this. But I have heard first hand accounts that certain stores did indeed ban certain types of Guns. As in they pulled guns from the case and refused to sell them. Who do I believe?
Thanks for dispelling the lies about Walmart not selling guns. I don’t have time these days to research every crackpot claim on the Internet. I count on trusted sources like FR for the news, and it really screws me up when I read lies, and don’t have time to go searching for the truth.
Yep.
That and they are trying to earn some credits with the whole union thing.
When and where?
I like Walmart. Now I like them a lot more and will make an effort to shop there first.
I have a friend in Rogers who went to Academy today to buy some .223 rounds and said they only had four boxes and the clerk told him they have no idea when they’ll get another shipment.
Deer Season (using guns) just ended friday...Walmart is one of the biggest dealers in guns and ammo and maybe they did sell out.
“As of Friday afternoon, Arkansas hunters had checked more than 210,000, according to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. That number easily surpasses the previous record of 194,192 set during the 1999-2000 hunting season.”
There are a lot of Walmart Supercenters in NW Arkansas that are not far from Rogers. Walmart is continuing to sell guns and ammo
NOT true! WALMART is continuing to sell guns and ammo. I personally went to the Cassville, MO store today and yes, they are selling guns and ammo. I called the store in Rogers, AK and spoke to the sporting goods mgr..they had guns and ammo for sale. The CEO of Walmart stated the store will continue to sell guns despite the debates going on with Obama AND...Walmart is not just hiring vets they are also spending 50 billion dollars to push American products in their store..

Thanks - it was hard thinking of Walmart turning their backs on the people. This feels much better...
Nice PR Move.
The article says WM will hire 100,000 Vets over 5 years. That’s 20K per year. Not that impressive considering that they would love to replace high school students and high school drop outs with people who have proven their worth. Walmarts attrition rate is large, so there would be plenty of opportunities.
The buying of more American goods is a not as charitable as it sounds. The prices of Asian goods have been rising due to the increase in worker wages and benefits.
Finally, saying that they would help part-time workers become full-time workers is like saying the sun will rise tomorrow. Is something that just happens anyway. If a part-time employee is a good employee, he or she will have an opportunity. Hell, the article says that 75% of store management started out as hourly employees.
Oh, and I would be suspicious of the 28 hour limit as well.
“but a man could not earn a living wage or support a family.”
That’s right; under a Republican we’d have the media mocking the “McJobs”. Does anyone in the government media even use that term anymore, or did it disappear with “homeless”...
Good for them!
Part time employees with VA medical benefits, fits right in with Obamacare insurance. Save WM a bundle on insurance.
Bonjour!
I love Walmart prices ....but I love Walmart even more now....since the ahole left has demonized them and tried to destroy them. Guess I’m just funny that way.
