President Barack Obama said U.S. and coalition forces in Afghanistan will adopt a support role starting in the spring of 2013, to allow Afghan police and soldiers to take full responsibility of the countrys security, a nation where 2,053 American soldiers have died since the war started on Oct. 7, 2001.
Seventy-two percent of those casualties occurred during Obama's first term.
And today we agreed, as Afghan forces take the lead and as President Karzai announces the final phase of the transition, coalition forces will move to a support role this spring, Obama said Friday at the White House, alongside Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

Changing of rules of engagement only killed our soldiers.
I live near Fort Lewis (big Stryker base). There is almost a death a week reported.
Pres. Zip has used our troops for political cannon fodder. Then he admits we failed in Afgh. last week. You’d think he would be in shame. Even LBJ never admitted that about Vietnam!. More destruction of our troops and America’s confidence in the military. All part of the plan...
100% of the idiotic nation building plans originated with dumbo Dubya.
Copied from another blog...deaths are of military of all NATO troops.
“Good morning,” began the President today. (3/27/2009) “Today, I am announcing a comprehensive, new strategy for Afghanistan and Pakistan. And this marks the conclusion of a careful policy review, led by Bruce [Reidel], that I ordered as soon as I took office.” Read the White Paper on the new policy (pdf) >> Read the One-pager on the new elements in the policy >>
The President stressed the perilous position we find ourselves in there, and the threat that would arise should safe havens on Pakistan go unchallenged or should the government in Afghanistan fall to the Taliban again. He also noted that 2008 was the deadliest year to date in that war. {FYI 2008-295! 2009-521! 2010 -711! 2011-566! 2012-405}
HE also said: “ And if the Afghan government falls to the Taliban — or allows al Qaeda to go unchallenged — that country will again be a base for terrorists who want to kill as many of our people as they possibly can.”
WHAT A GREAT AMERICAN./s
Uh huh.
Now, there's a headline/story you won't see reported in the MSM. Facts are merely pesky distractions for libs.
True.
Not only is it terrible to have lost such a high percentage of troops serving under this creep. But the thing that makes it worse is he doesn’t give a damn.
Those troops are just pawns to him in the Game of Stratego.
True and he doesn't give a damn about our brave soldiers. I'm for bringing them home.
That chart proves once again, that the most dangerous time to be in uniform, is when a Democrat is president.
Remember he said the troops work on “my behalf”. What an arrogant jerk. His fall, if it ever comes, will be a long, hard one.
They were not only under his watch—they were at his direction. In his book, American deaths=good. Muslim deaths=bad. As CIC, he has done everything he can to make it difficult for our guys to defend themselves.
In reference to this linked article early this morning:
I sent the following message to my friends, and relatives:
“The article doesn’t mention it, but I recall Obama’s team changed the ROE for shooting back in Afghanistan a few years ago, and those ROE have gotten more of our guys killed by the senselessness of those ROE than ever before. So with the increase in deaths caused by our own fearless leader it’s really saying something about the Chicago numbers.”
