Police have released audio from a 911 call made during a home invasion in Georgia, in which a concerned husband tells his wife to shoot a lawless intruder. The mom was home alone with her twin 9-year-old children when the man broke into their home with a crowbar.
The mother, later identified as Melinda Herman, shot the man five times with a .38 caliber revolver after he cornered them in an attic crawlspace,

We have a Sp101 that I put .38 HP in for my wife. Its a bit easier for my wife to shoot than the .357 rounds.
Of course thats a backup to the .45 acp

When the criminal looks in a crawlspace, he’s not looking for cash or jewelery. He heard people and was looking for entertainment. I’m glad she was armed and the entertainment was one-sided. How much chance would she have had unarmed against a guy who could take five shots to the face, neck, lungs, and liver and still get away?
The woman handled things perfectly, and I imagine her husband is justifiably proud of her. My only criticism is of the husband. He needs some serious self-defense ammo in that revolver. It may be the right weapon for his wife, and judging by her shooting it probably is, but if he chose the ammo, he did a lousy job. If that criminal comes back, once he’s out of the hospital and then prison, I hope she has the right ammo to solve the problem permanently.
Hopefully her husband will do something warm and fuzzy like get his wife a pistol with several extended mags as a Valentine’s Day present. And/or a shotgun.
I recently bought this gun for home defense and have been thinking about some of this specialty rounds. I have a Rock River LAW-15 , I wanted something that didn’t require much to run it out of a sound sleep, thus the shotgun. I just need to get a flashlight to mount on it and it will be ready.
Too bad about the guy that does that.

Her view is face and upper torso, but ball ammo is going to go all the way down the body.
There were different and conflicting news reports. Whatever. The point is, once again, that she ran out of bullets after six, and the perp wasn’t dead; hence, it would be prudent to have a weapon that can shoot more than six times; hence, the argument that no one needs as much ammo as a semi-automatic offers are entirely unfounded.

This didn't happen in New York, Illinois, or California. This happened in Georgia....not far from the county that elected the Sheriff that just made national news for making a public stand for the 2nd amendment. My daughter and two grandkids live in the same town this this happened in.
While it's obvious you are ignorant to this fact....the "idiot", my daughter, me, and millions of other Georgians are well aware that we live in a state that is very pro 2nd amendment, and whose laws give us citizens wide berth to use deadly force to protect ourselves and others. We citizens pretty much have the same legal right to use deadly force as LE does.
"The idiot" was well aware that there wasn't a chance in hell of his wife facing any charges...AS HE RACED HOME IN HIS TRUCK TALKING TO 911 IN ONE PHONE AND TALKING TO HIS WIFE ON ANOTHER AS AN INTRUDER WAS APPROACHING THE CLOSET HIS WIFE IN KIDS WERE HIDING IN.
Think you could think clearly in the same situation? It doesn't seem you could being you are sitting in no danger whatsoever and are making broad misjudgments that 5 mins of research and 30 seconds of critical thinking skills could have prevented. Have you heard one peep of charges being filed? No..you haven't.
It's bad enough the armchair heroes on all these threads are decrying the fact the perp ain't dead. What saved this perps life was his teeth and palette deflected the two shots that would've killed him instantly, and despite the best efforts of the dr's, he somehow survived the three that pierced his lungs and liver...overnight.
But for you to call this man an idiot? A man that trained his wife with minimal shooting skills and experience well enough that she made 5 kill shots on target EXACTLY as he taught her...with a weapon that fit her skill and size.
This man and his wife deserve medals.
You sir..deserve the idiot badge.
Two shots hit the perps teeth and deflected out his cheeks. She was about two inches low with those two shots or they woulda been instantly fatal.
The other three hits hit both his lungs and his liver. The two lung shots were through and through leaving 4 holes in his lungs. The liver shot stayed in him. Despite the best efforts of the EMT's, dr's, and nurses to let him die...he somehow made it till the next morning and they had to take him to surgery. There were two combat vets amongst the medical staff with heavy gunshot wound experience that said they were shocked the perp made it overnight without dying.
