A Senate committee has refused to approve a promotion to admiral for a Navy officer who, as a young fighter pilot during a training mission, deliberately shot down an Air Force plane whose flier has suffered a life of pain from his forced ejection.
The Senate Armed Services Committee took no confirmation vote on the nomination of Capt. Tiimothy W. Dorsey as the 112th Congress ended.
Because the Senate did not act, the nomination goes back to the White House. The Navy has the option of trying to resubmit his nomination during the 113t Congress, which convened Thursday.

How did he get promoted to O-6?
The incident should have been a career ender. Just ask any skipper that 'accidentally' hit another ship or ran aground - here we have INTENTIONALLY shot down an aircraft!
Another example of dummbing-down our military, or who his daddy was at the time?
Holder’s People, or Mohammed’s?
relavant paragraph:
"At the time, his father, James Dorsey, commanded the carrier USS America. He later attained three-star rank as a vice admiral.
Hey, it worked for McCain.
“Capt. Dorsey’s father, James Dorsey, was at the time of the incident commander of the carrier USS America and an aviator. A year later, he became assistant deputy chief of naval operations at the Pentagon and later attained three-star vice admiral rank.”
"Fished out of the water and taken to the Saratoga, Ross waited for an apology from Dorsey. It did not come until last year, when the former Air Force pilot received a note from Dorsey as his nomination was pending in the Senate Armed Services Committee."
If Obama wants to promote him he might be a libtard he wants to put in charge of further destroying the military
This guy should have been court-martialed and sent to jail after shooting down the other plane was found to have been deliberate.
Buried in the article is the explanation of why he wasn’t: “At the time, his father, James Dorsey, commanded the carrier USS America. He later attained three-star rank as a vice admiral.”
Reminds me of McCain. He was known as “Ace McCain” because the managed to lose five of his own planes during the course of his career, and at least four of those appear to have been his own carelessness and incompetence. Yet he continued to be promoted and work his way up to nomination for POTUS. Why? Because his father was an Admiral, and then he married money.
How you ask? He is the son of a Navy admiral, an admiral who was I believe 2nd in command of the fleet when this happened. To quote Animal House, “He’s a legacy...” like John McCain, with all of the rights and privileges of family inheritance of titles. Unlike any of the rest of us, he was not courts martialed but was sent to the active reserves and promoted in accordance with his “legacy”. A perfect example of “who you know and who you blow”, or who you are related to. After all, the AF crew didn’t die, did they.
I’m sure Captain Dorsey has the respect of those under his command. /s
Shame he didn’t have McCain’s daddy.
Oh, Daddy was a carrier captain...well then there you go.
Hey. it’s not like he did something career-ending, like screw a married woman or make fun of homosexuals or be insensitive to terrorist suspects

My dad was a retired LCDR. Never got me anything during my time in the Marines.
“Say what!!! How the hell did he make Captain?

His Daddy was a 3 star Admiral, when this jerkoff got his first kill, an USAF plane.

We’ve all heard the old saying about the military: “Screw up and move up.” Well, a Naval Reserve captain who shot down an American plane in 1987, nearly killing the two crewmen aboard, may be promoted to flag rank soon. Go figure.
Well-connected Capt. Timothy W. Dorsey is one of Obama’s picks to be an admiral in the Navy. It figures. Dorsey’s always had help from folks in high places. Like his daddy, retired three-star Admiral James Dorsey, the former skipper of the aircraft carrier USS America.
The senior Dorsey was a naval aviator, and his son had followed in his father’s footsteps.
SHOT DOWN THE PLANE
It was some 25 years ago, that then-LTJG Tim Dorsey committed the ultimate foul-up. During a training exercise, against orders, the headstrong young pilot fired a missile at an Air Force recon plane and blew it out of the sky. It was a miracle that both crewmen survived.
One would think a stunt like that would have gotten Dorsey busted and sent to he fleet as a swabbie. No such luck. Because he was Admiral Dorsey’s boy, nothing, and we mean just that, nothing adverse happened to the doofus.
Now, a loyal reader of Military Corruption.com (we get up to six million hits a month, worldwide) has tipped us - and you - the real story why young Dorsey escaped any punishment at all.
“I’ve seen lots of Navy officers lose their careers over some small stuff,” a retired Navy commander told us, “but this guy Dorsey, we remember he was so arrogant he didn’t even express regret he’d destroyed an expensive U.S. aircraft and nearly cost both the pilot and co-pilot (they parachuted to safety) their lives in the process.”
“It was the old man (Adm. James Dorsey) that got sonny boy off, our well-informed source said. “for anyone else that (shooting down a friendly aircraft) would have been a definite career ender. But for Dorsey’s son, that junior officer got a free pass, even though an investigation showed him clearly at fault.”
An IG probe expressed the view that young Dorsey “lacked good judgment” and cast doubt upon the Saratoga pilot’s ability to fly. Yet the “brass hat” sibling got off without even a slap on the wrist.
Today, the 48 year-old Dorsey is general counsel for USA Discounters in Virginia Beach, Va. and is a four-striper in the Naval Reserve. That this man could rise to flag rank - “like father, like son” - shows it’s not what you do, it’s who you know and who cares about you. Justice and equal treatment under the law have nothing to do with this.
My first thoughts was about McQueeg. I think McCain is a reverse Ace who either crashed or got shot down totalling at least 5 times during his career.
