The incident should have been a career ender. Just ask any skipper that 'accidentally' hit another ship or ran aground - here we have INTENTIONALLY shot down an aircraft!
Another example of dummbing-down our military, or who his daddy was at the time?

This guy should have been court-martialed and sent to jail after shooting down the other plane was found to have been deliberate.
Buried in the article is the explanation of why he wasn’t: “At the time, his father, James Dorsey, commanded the carrier USS America. He later attained three-star rank as a vice admiral.”
Reminds me of McCain. He was known as “Ace McCain” because the managed to lose five of his own planes during the course of his career, and at least four of those appear to have been his own carelessness and incompetence. Yet he continued to be promoted and work his way up to nomination for POTUS. Why? Because his father was an Admiral, and then he married money.

I read about that guy back then. Wonder if he did a 'Victory Roll'. Should have been canned then. But because of his dad, he's had a nice cushy career.
My dad was a retired LCDR. Never got me anything during my time in the Marines.
