CHAPIN, SC (WIS) -
At least one parent calls the actions of a Chapin High School English teacher disrespectful and unpatriotic. Additional Links Teacher's attorney: "My client was trying to create a forum for discussion using a powerful symbol" Read the Federal Law for displaying an American flag (PDF)
Scott Compton is accused of throwing down the American flag and stomping on it in front of his honors English classes.
When Michael Copeland overheard his teenager talking about what her honors II English teacher did with the flag in their classroom, he pressed for details.
"He drew a couple of symbols, like one of them was a cross, and he said, 'What does this represent,' and everybody said, 'Christianity,'" said Copeland.
"Then he proceeds to take down the American flag, and said, 'This is a symbol, but it's only a piece of cloth. It doesn't mean anything,' and then he throws it down on the floor and then stomps on it, repeatedly."

did this make it by your homeschool desk?
“This is a symbol, but it’s only a piece of cloth. It doesn’t mean anything,’
There’s the problem right there.
Can I, then, declare this “teacher” a mere symbol, then throw him to the ground and stomp on him repeatedly?

No, but you can declare him a cockroach and stomp on him. /no disrespect to cockroaches.
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which is stands..."
Not just words, not just a piece of fabric and that was my fist in your face and/or my foot upside your head.
Yet if a student had done the same thing to a poster of Obama, the student would be charged with a hate crime and expelled.
A good time for a student to yell out to the class, “Let’s Roll!!!,” then stomp on him repeately.
If I was in his class in High School, I would have gotten up and kicked his ass. I was a hot head and this would have landed me in Juvie but there are some things that I believe in. Desecrating the flag would not fly to well with me.
Allow me to assist you in stomping on this liberal puke..I mean, symbol.
There was a reason duels were still legal when the 1st Amendment was written.
This guy teaches English yet doesn't know the meaning of symbol? From www.dictionary.com --> a word, phrase, image, or the like having a complex of associated meanings and perceived as having inherent value separable from that which is symbolized, as being part of that which is symbolized, and as performing its normal function of standing for or representing that which is symbolized: usually conceived as deriving its meaning chiefly from the structure in which it appears, and generally distinguished from a sign
So a symbol HAS meaning. What an idiot -- and he's supposed to be a "teacher"...
Interesting. Hm?....The usual government school defenders have not visited this post.
I can’t imagine why.......
