Let me say on the record that I dont really care about New Jersey. I know very little about it. But, I know this much: I dont want to live there and I dont want the rest of the United States to resemble New Jersey.
For me New Jersey is the Joe Piscopo character asking anyone and everyone Are you from Jersey? Im from Jersey.
Also, Ive never seen the TV show Jersey Shore, but still I dont like it. And know that I dont want the rest of the country to resemble it, either.
Its the state that elected Jon Corzine governor. You know?
So Im a Jersey hater- which is OK because I suppose if Jersey knew me theyd hate me right back.
So were even.
But thats one reason why Ive never understood conservatives fascination with Governor Chris Christie.
I mean, heck: Hes from Jersey.
In general, Im not a fan of Republican politicians, like Chris Christie, who win elections in those liberal east coast states, like New Jersey. One day, Im sure someone will prove me wrong, as an exception, but in general politicians who win state-wide elections in places like New Jersey and Massachusetts are the political equivalent of fishing lures.
Yeah, theyre very pretty in the water, they wiggle a lot to attract attention, they flash and gleam, but once you bite, youre hooked. By the time you try to protest they have you scaled and gutted.
Conservatives know this about guys like Chris Christie, Mitt Romney and Scott Brown, to take recent examples.
Yet they still cant resist the draw to fawn on the pretenders.
Its a kind of a conservative guilt that guys like John McCain try to feed on. And its this guilt that has a variety of conservatives folding on tax increases and debt ceilings and elections in the pursuit of fair play and the can-do American spirit.
The bipartisan fairies from the news media then sprinkle bipartisan dust on the great pretenders, yuck it up with them, let them mug and preen on TV mostly because they know it drives conservatives like me crazy.
It also undermines our conservative ideals.
Christie, for example, appeared on CBS This Morning on Wednesday suggesting that the government isnt doing enough about gun control.
Yeah, he mentioned it in the context of focusing not only on gun control, but adding preventive steps like mental health screenings, but hes not stupid.
Mental health screenings are gun control.
Thats what the NRA says and they are right.
The comprehensive approach, which Christie advocates, is the government approach, which conservatives dread.
Christie seems to take a comprehensive approach to everything especially talking.
So, someone needs to remind Christie that hes not Governor of the United States.
Hes from Jersey for crying out loud. Its like a perpetual off-ramp on the way to somewhere else.
Its a place where Jon Corzine was elected governor.
And while thats not a very fair comparison for Christie, Ill at least say this much in his defense: Christie makes a much better Democrat governor from New Jersey than Corzine ever did.
Look at how far it got Jiffy Jon.
We can only hope Christie will do as well.
Whats a matta - ya dont like the NJ Capo?
“Bipartisan fairies sprinkling Bipartisan dust”
I like that line, gets right to the heart of the matter.
Around Christmas time, I was forced to visit my son and his wife who live in NJ. I couldn’t wait to get the hell out. My only prayer for them is that they will find a way to relocate to some more civil part of the country. What a hell hole!
(BTW, I was born and raised in NYC; once having finished college, I moved away....far, far away).
I can give Christie credit for going after unions et al, but at some point this NE Repub’s. go off the rails.
Agreed, You could find good pizza joints and few of the old school Greek diners are still around, but it ain’t worth it. I wish I could convince my Brother and SIL to consider moving out, they got a 1400sf house on just over 1/4 acre, over 8k in taxes, and that’s considered reasonable in Bergen Cty.
I’m tired of all the self important east coast mayors and governors who think they can dictate policy to the rest of the country.
They’re making a great case for the electoral college.
Jersey is where God sat when he was making the
Appalachians.
Its a crap hole...crowded, smelly and a far cry from being the Garden State it once was.
Arguably, Christie played a large role in helping Romney lose the election and he got absolutely NOTHING in return except some fleeting press.
That whole corridor from DC to Boston could slide into the Atlantic and we would all be better off.
Remember, NJ also gave us wonderful statesman such as Bob Torricelli and Bob Menendez.
IMO, this is exactly what the GOP has been doing for a number of years. Between them and the MSM, we get "their" choice rammed down our throats...kind of like...this is who we choose, go with it.
and Woodrow Wilson.
Christie is up for re-election this year so a couple of hugs to O and whipping Bonher and the R House (Tea party) has sent his approval in NJ soaring to amazing heights.
Thats how it works,
Christine was always annoying, but it was fun when he appeared on our side. Now he is kissing up to Dems, a hero on MSNBC.
I have to defend Scott Brown though, he made many brave and tough votes against the Dem majority and lost his MA seat to a Marxist as a results. He deserves better treatment than he is getting on talk radio. He made passing O care very difficult for Obama.
They talk as if Jim DeMint could have won that election. i hope few of their listeners really believe that
Great observation!
Thanks
:)
Thanks for the posting. Townhalls John Ransom has come up with a term we need to see more often. That is “Bipartisan Fairies”.These are the GOPES in the magic kingdom of “change” who flitter over to the eager TV news ghouls and vampires of MSM. BF’s flutter their lacywings and leave their droppings with those in the the mainline Socialist media who dutifully divert attention from the destruction of the constitution, corruption, and malfeasance their master is performing to repeat the call for conformity and obedience to the emporer in this magic kingdom of “change under the spell of “bipartisanship” “. http://www.theusmat.com/ Why we lost
I have lived in New Jersey all my life. I’m on in years in my 60’s.
This is NOT the state I was born into. The state I was born into gave teachers and students off on Opening Day of Deer Season. There was a rifle team in High School which met and competed in the basement of the High School. I could take my gun out to a wooded area with a large earth back stop nearly anywhere in the woods here and bang away at targets, and, if an odd cop or two showed up, he took a few shots with me.
On Veteran’s Day or Memorial Day, the streets of most towns were full of proud soldiers marching in review before equally proud crowds of citizens waving American Flags.
Prayers were recited in the school system and the flag was saluted.
In most areas, you could leave your house or car unlocked and there was no fear.
But gradually, over time, the evil Shadow of the Rotten Apple loomed bigger and bigger over the state, matched by that equally evil shadow of Philadelphia. Large cities like Newark lost their business districts and degenerated into slime centers ridden with vice, political corruption, crime and despair.
Actually, very few people who were originally raised in Jersey and are older speak anything like the freaks on Jersey Shore, who resemble charactures from Brooklyn or other parts of New York City, more than original Jersey residents.
Politicians like Christie are part of the problem, but they reflect the attitude and beliefs of the average resident of the state today, who really are nothing more than clones of New York City or Philadelphia type folks.
There are still some very beautiful parts of the state up in Sussex, Warren and Hunterdon County and even upper Passaic County. Parts of South Jersey in the Pine Barrens, closely resembles the Pine Woods of North Carolina, and the ORIGINAL inhabitants thereof were more like them also.
I hope and pray I can finally escape this pit when I retire.
I will carefully examine anywhere I chose to move.
The Evil Shadow of the Rotten Apple is also looming over New Hampshire and Vermont as well as eastern Pennsylvania and Florida and parts of North Carolina.
I just can’t understand why these people refuse to realize that the reason they have to leave where they live - with its political mess, high taxes, high property values and crime - is because of their very political views and cultural “values” (?) which they always seem to take with them.
