Najee Ali, director of the advocacy group Project Islamic Hope, plans a news conference Tuesday with other Los Angeles black community leaders calling for the removal of the toys from the market.
Ali called the action figures "a slap in the face of our ancestors."
"We were outraged," said Ali, upon learning of the figures. "We feel that it trivializes the horrors of slavery and what African Americans experienced."
The action figures are collectibles recommended for people older than 17.

LOL! Great question.
These black “leaders” need a trip to Mecca so they can rediscover that problematic truth that Malcom X discovered (and led to his death).
BTW I’m watching Iron Man II. So far so good.
Why would a real adult want to buy this crap?
Has anyone seen it?
My niece went (she is not a kid) and said it was quite good.
But she saw it on base (for $1.00), so maybe that’s all its worth.
...wow, kind of like Nazis concerned about anti-Semitism.
well, only Nixon could go to China as they say.
They’re collectibles. They’ll be worth big money down the road.
When the same Quentin Tarantino used 'Inglourious Basterds' to trivialize the Jewish experience in Nazi occupied Europe nobody said a word.
The malady is so ubiquitous and to some, so irritating, Star Trek references are forbidden in The National Review.
Maybe if Ali got all worked up over CURRENT Islamic countries that allow and condone slavery I might care what he thinks....
Does it involved Islamic Slavery?
I try to stay as far away from Malcolm X as I possibly can.
I’m sure that as soon as Tarantino makes the appropriate donation to the appropriate group the toys will be A-OK.
Just going from memory on what Alveda King said to Glenn Beck.
She basically said that “Calvin” discovered how twisted NOI beliefs were and that members were mindless robots. She said his hatred of whites had begun to falter because he had seen real slavery and racism in the mideast. Louis Farrakahn all but admitted that the Nation Of Islam killed Malcom X because he would have destroyed the organization.
Its doubtful that he was ever going to be a conservative but if he had lived, I doubt the NOI would be the organization it is today.
I guess reality bites hard even the most vehement of leftists.
Maybe the profits could go to a fund to buy 40 acres and a mule?
re “Why are 9 out of 10 conservative intellectuals Star Trek geeks?” EASY:
“Star Trek” was a wonderfully constructed world of Sci-Fi that incorporated the best of American values, was well written, featured good actors/actresses, and was entertaining. EXAMPLES:
* Self-Sacrifice: “The Doomsday Machine”, William Windom, a WW2 combat vet, as Commodore Dekker. Leonard Nimoy as Spock in “The Wrath of Khan”.
* Patriotism: “The Omega glory”, esp. the scene in which Kirk begins to recite the “forbidden words” that were those in the introduction to the Declaration of Independence, and then the unravelling of an old American flag.
The most beautiful sight I have ever seen of the American flag was when two U.S. riverine patrol boats (Mekong Delta, So. Vietnam) passed under a bridge I was on, with the flags fully flying.
I guess the most beautiful sight my father-in-law saw (and has a picture of), was a large American flag flying at the top of Mt. Suribachi on Iwo Jima. His Army Signal Corps Signal Assault Company had taken very heavy casualties during the fighting and were taken back down the mountain to get patched up.
* Humor: Something the Left doesn’t have much of. “The Trouble With Tribbles” series and “Harry, Mudd” (Harcourt!) says it all.
* Nice looking women: Nichele Nichols, Sherry Jackson, Julie Newmar, Terri Gar, etc. from the TV series plus any from ST; Deep Space 9 (Farrell, DeBoer, Visitor, Materson), Seven of Nine (Jery Ryan, beautiful in person with very little makeup), Kate Mulgrew, Marina Sirtis, etc. (You should see my autographed photo collection. Eat your hearts out, peasants).
* Technology: “Phasers”; “Communicators”, Time travel, “transporters”, etc. Great imagination in creating things that didn’t exist, some of which were created later.
* Humanity: The sacrifices of the Enterprise and other Federation ships in helping to protect weaker peoples is typically American, or else the French would have been speaking German ever since 1944 (i.e. a failure of the D-Day invasion).
* Exploration: An unique human trait is that of exploring the unknown, be it in space, on earth or in the seas. “To Go Where No Man Has Gone Before”, “City on the Edge of Forever”, and “ Out there, Mr. Sulu” quote.
Star Trek was not just a show or movie, it was the creative imagination of Gene Roddenberry and company who took us “where no man has gone before” in one helluva ride into space.
Trekkies at FR know exactly what I’m talking about. We could go to new worlds and new times without ever having to leave our chairs, and enjoy the trip both visually and in our minds.
Freeper Trekkies rule!
