Adam Lanza wore earplugs, rapidly changed clips, shot up cars in parking lot: report
NY Daily News ^ | 1/7/13 | PHILIP CAULFIELD

Investigators puzzled by why Sandy Hook gunman Adam Lanza wore earplugs during the massacre if he knew he was going to kill himself. Separately, evidence shows Lanza reloaded his weapon before the magazines were spent, leading to questions about whether he was influenced by the first-person shooter games he spent hours playing.

I know what causes this. You are holding it too close to your crotch.

Destruction of Lanza’s hard drive was of paramount importance, perhaps to protect the identity of those he corresponded with.

Holy crap.

Can you get me a citation? I believe you, I just want to have it on record.

First, you are the individual who began the insults - thus, it isn't I who has the thin skin.

Second, provide your evidence of Lanza's father's statements regarding Autism. You don't get to just make a claim without providing any proof.

Third, stick the DU where the sun doesn't shine.

If you would bother to do some research you might learn something regarding this topic. But, alas, you’d rather remain ignorant and spew forth nonsense on subjects for which you have no facts or even any knowledge. THAT is a hallmark trait of those who post comments at DU.

The coroner said there were 3 to 11 wounds per person..that is times 26 people. No way handguns inflicted that many shots. And the coroner and the police chief have no reason to lie...nor would they.

Hence the reason I commented that the Bushmaster must have been the weapon Lanza used for the attack. I am not among the individuals on this thread (and probably other threads as well) questioning which weapon was used. I am also not questioning the reports from the coroner or the Top Cop. Others are speculating a cover-up.

Again, since you are slow:

1. Boy was autistic.

2. Autistics often have problems with loud noises.

3. Sensitivity to loud noises is the most likely explanation to the ear plugs.

4. No one made a link between autism and the violent events in question except thin-skinned little you.

Now, back to DU with your fellow easily-offended!

Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder, not a personality disorder. It is also not schizophrenia. Autism exists on a spectrum from mild to severe. It has a number of characteristics associated with the disorder, including language deficits (either a lack of intelligible speech, or difficulty with understanding speech - pragmatism). Autistic individuals often engage in self-stimming behaviors (such as twirling around, flapping their hands or arms, staring at an object they spin around, or jumping up and down). Autistic individuals typically have very limited range of interests. They typically have sensory issues, such as sensitivity to light, touch, sound, etc. They typically are clumsy in their movements or walking gait. Children with Autism will often engage in parallel play, but rarely engage in direct play with peers. Making eye contact is also extremely difficult for those with Autism.

I have reviewed the literature on Autism/Asperger's and violence. There are no studies which indicate that a person with Autism/Asperger's is prone to engage in planned violence, especially not of the nature involved in this shooting. Autistic individuals may at times engage in spontaneous acts of violence, as what you reported with the child of your customer. Adam Lanza's behavior was planned behavior, and is not that seen in persons with Autism.

However, there is a large number of cases of individuals with either schizophrenia or some form of a personality disorder who have engaged in planned violence that mirror what happened in this case. The Arizona shooting, the Mall shooting in Washington State, the Colorado movie theater shooting, and the Columbine High School Shooting all fit that mold.

Prove your ascertions or we are done. You have NO evidence of any kind that Lanza was diagnosed with Autism or Asperger’s. All you have is your claim, which is bogus. Try doing some research instead of your knee jerk DU accusations.

I have been well, Chip. We had our grandson for the holidays and he takes over my computer. And I let him. That is what Nana’s do of course.
Always good to see you. I hope this New Year is a good one for you and your family.

"There's more sick and strange news out of Newtown, Connecticut today. Investigators looking into the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School have let slip that shooter Adam Lanza wore earplugs when he went on a murderous rampage that claimed 27 innocent lives. By doing that, Lanza dulled at least one of his senses to the chaos that was unfolding inside that school. He was immune to the chaos he was creating. He had closed himself off to the screams, to the pleas ... Why? ..... We do know he had a form of autism, and loud noises may have bothered him.

Concern over Autism stigma after Newtown

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Adam Lanza was thought to have an Autism Spectrum Disorder. Now, there is fallout for other kids with the same diagnosis a new stigma that they could one day cause a similar crime. One Mom is speaking out about this new concern.

Autism Had Nothing to Do With Adam Lanza’s Rampage

The news that the Newtown shooter suffered from autism explains nothing about his act and only further complicates the job of explaining the condition to the public, writes Richard E. Farley.

After having worked the past 16+ years with children who have Autism/Asperger’s Syndrome (as well as children with many other disorders) I was just attempting to clarify the issue of Autism as it relates to this case. I’ve gotten the impression there are those who just want to jump on the bandwagon of blaming what Lanza did on something other than Lanza himself. There are those who are demonizing the tool he used. Others want to demonize developmental disorders. Still others want to blame some mysterious mental illness. All that with zero evidence.

I note the story states Lanza was THOUGHT to have an Autism Spectrum Disorder. There is only one source for this THOUGHT, that being Lanza's older brother, who was reported by the media as stating he thought Adam may have had Autism or a personality disorder. I've not seen or read of any video of Ryan Lanza making that actual claim; there is only the media reporting Ryan Lanza made said claim.

There has been no doctor or diagnostician who has come forward and verified that Adam Lanza had been diagnosed with any disorder, neurological or otherwise.

By the way, there are people who are sensitive to noise who do not have Autism or Asperger's Syndrome. Also, there are no cases of a person with Autism or Asperger's who has committed a planned violent attack.

“There has been no doctor or diagnostician who has come forward and verified that Adam Lanza had been diagnosed with any disorder, neurological or otherwise.”

Of course not; that would be protected by HIPPA laws.

“By the way, there are people who are sensitive to noise who do not have Autism or Asperger’s Syndrome.”

Sure. But no one is saying his use of earplugs is evidence of Autism, just explained by his autism.

“Also, there are no cases of a person with Autism or Asperger’s who has committed a planned violent attack.”

I don’t know about that one way or the other; I personally doubt it is true. I don’t see why being autistic would insulate a person from being violent any more than any one else. Indeed, since they are often bullying victims, I would suspect that, as a group, they’d be marginally —— marginally -— more likely to lash out in some fashion.
