Sen. Pat Toomey is one of the great accomplishments of the Tea Party Movement, and after supporting him in 04 back when Bush was backing Specter, it does my heart good to see him in our dysfunctional deliberate body. For that same reason, some are very angry at him for his vote on the fiscal cliff deal. But as we go into another debt-ceiling fight, hes one of our better communicators on this issue. So, it also does my heart good to see him go on Morning Joe, up against five people who disagree with him, and direct the conversation, over and over, away from the fig leaf of revenue and back to the real issue of entitlements and $16 trillion in debt.
There are some, like Ben Domenech, who think the debt ceiling deal will look much like this one a short-term get-out-of-jail solution that again doesnt address our real problems because no one really wants to address them. There are some, like Jim Pethokoukis, who think itll end in another tax hike.
If its ever going to look any different, with the GOP demanding whats best for the country getting us off the path to Greece, as Toomey puts it by addressing entitlement reform and maybe tax reformits going to take people like Toomey to explain that, on TV, every single day. Many Americans simply dont understand the gravity of the debt problem. Democrats and some Republicans are more than happy to feed this misunderstanding by pretending these deals make some kind of progress because it helps them avoid stickier budget wickets.
Toomeys Wednesday appearance is getting a lot of press because he said the GOP should be willing to risk a temporary government shut-down to get cuts,.....

Dear God let it be so. This should be our fight. We should shout it everyday...all day. Please please shut it down if that is what it takes. Now is the time!
Haaaaaaaa! That’s a good one Pat! Do you have any more to tell me?! Just too funny.

Sen. Toomey wants to fight the good fight, but he’s one of the few.
After Obama and the MSM get done beating them to a bloody pulp for a few weeks the Pubbies will be a’ runnin’ for the tall grass as usual.
They always “risk” a shutdown; it’s just that they refuse to ever actually have a shutdown. Easy prediction: they will not shutdown the govt. Did we elect a new Speaker of the House today? Of course not; therefore, it will be the same old, same old.
This Pat Toomey?
Pat Toomey’s cliff vote upsets backers
Proud Toomey supporter from 2004. Fiscal common sense. A low key kind of guy. I just wished he had never been part of the supercommittee, the worst idea ever to come out of the Senate.
Keep going Pat!
Now that is nearly Heresy.
Toomey is doing comedic relief these days?
If not, who does he think he’s kidding?

YOU’RE A LIAR AND A FRAUD SEN TOOMEY.
YOU COULD HAVE DENIED UNANIMOUS CONSENT AND STOPPED THE FIDCAL CLIFF BILL BUT YOU DIDN’T.
aND YOU WON’T DENY UNANIMOUS CONSENT FOR ANY OF THE OTHER GARBAGE FROM REID INCLUDING THE DEBT RISE.
TOOMEY YOU’RE A P.O.S.
Oh, NOW they’re willing to shut the government down, after being scared in 2011, when their power was at it’s height. Oh NOW they learn something from Gingrich, after their boy Romney got his ass whipped.
Toomey can begin to lead by not attending any more of McConnell’s meetings, not listening to a word he says, and denying every unanimous consent in the Senate.
I’ve had to adjust my skepticism threshold so many times, I’m convinced any attempt at a spinal implant would be rejected by DC Repubs as an incompatible match. Anyone willing to go over the cliff shouldn’t have a problem with a government shutdown.
GOP will just rollover to Obama again. They are wimps and will never be in charge of the country again.
These wimps couldn’t shut down a lemonade stand.
Oh wait, they let THAT happen all the time.
Spineless bastards. The whole lot of them.
IMHO, we should, still, have the federal government shut down RIGHT NOW, from the first “government shut down” circumstance many years ago!
BS. Toomey will fold right along with the rest of them when the MSM says “Boo!”
