The new year began not with a cannonball off the fiscal cliff but with an outbreak of conspiratorial cynicism.
This time its Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, whose fall and concussion, followed by a blood clot between her brain and skull, has prompted an embarrassment of theories. The gist: That woman will do anything to avoid testifying about Benghazi.
Several commentators on the right opined via Twitter and TV, those most deadly hosts for the parasites of rumor and innuendo, that Clinton was faking her concussion to duck out on her appearance before congressional committees investigating the attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound in Libya that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.
An independent report published last month placed substantial responsibility for the deaths on the State Department. Not only was security at the Benghazi compound weak, relying heavily on local forces with conflicting loyalties, but requests for additional security apparently were ignored or denied.
The sentiment that Clinton might not wish to testify on the matter is not without reason. It is hard to imagine the agony of knowing that ones lack of vigilance may have contributed to four deaths. But the attacks on Clinton during her illness, essentially attacks on her character, have been cruel and unfair. What must the world think of us?
Clinton, who fainted as a result of dehydration after a bout of flu, hit her head and suffered a concussion, after which a blood clot was discovered. She had to be hospitalized while blood-thinning medications were administered and monitored.
Although her critics backed off once the clot was reported, initial responses ranged from Shes faking to demands for proof of her concussion.
One writer demanded her medical records. John Bolton, former ambassador to the United Nations, called Clintons affliction a diplomatic illness

As if there wasn't plenty in her past to question her character about.
Better call Kathleen Parker a waaaaambulance.
In 2008 Parker said Hillary was “thoroughly qualified” to be president. This despite Hillary having an almost identical program to Obama’s. Whatever Parker is, she’s no conservative.
Ms. Parker, this is a woman that would not stoop to help her fellow American under any circumstances. Please don’t push this crap on us.
“You are not journalists. You are slobbering, agenda-driven, propaganda-selling, useful idiots for a new Politburo.”
Obviously, they have forgotton what Hitler did with his “useful idiots”, when they ceased to be useful. The cattle-cars are being prepped, as we speak.
Lets not forget the missing Rose law firm billing records.
1. My plane got shot at by snipers —we had to duck and run like heck for cover.
2. I was named after Sir Edmund Hillary.
3. The filthy loot I made from cattle futures? I simply read the Wall Street Journal —and turned $1,000 into over $100,000 in almost NO time. And with no previous experience. While regulating top commodity futures officials.
4. The Rose Law Firm billing records? Yeah, they turned up after 11 months in my office. Yeah, they literally had my fingerprints on them. Uh...we just didn’t SEE them.
5. I never knew about Kathleen Willey. Or Juanita Broadderick. Or Gennifer Flowers. I have never had knowledge of my husband’s infidelity, and no I am not a lesbian. No, my marriage with Bill is not “a bargain”. No, Chelsea’s dad is not Webb Hubbell. I’m not in a lesbian affair with a member of the Muslim Brotherhood.
I suppose blaming GWB or Dick Cheney for her condition would have ruined the tone of the article.
Why is this leftie surprised that nobody believes anything a congenital liar like Hillary says?
Don’t you have to have some character before it can be assassinated?
Then there’s this:
“Again, Clinton may well prefer to miss her day before the firing squad, but it is unlikely that doctors or a hospital would assist a secretary of state or anyone in concocting a fake affliction.”
Lawyers have no problem finding doctors everywhere in America who are willing to diagnose fake afflictions on demand to support injury claims. Politicians often suffer some convenient injuries or afflictions when they need sympathy, like Teddy Kennedy’s convenient neck brace, or Jessie Jackson Jr’s convenient mental illness. Ordinary citizens doctor shop and malinger to the point where it costs businesses and insurance companies billions of dollars a year, and any schmoe in California can get a fake diagnosis and prescription for pot. Yet Hillary, who is supposedly the shrewdest woman in American politics, can’t get a doctor’s note to cover her behind?
Poor widdle ol’ Hillary...because apparently character asassination is worse than the actual assassinations she had carried out.
Liberal women, for feigning strength, sure play the victim card well.
The character assassination of Hillary Clinton?!?
Since when can one assassinate a dead turnip?
How do you perform a character assasination on someone who has no character?
After 9-11, Kathleen sounded almost sane for a little while. I guess she’s “conflicted” between her heart and her brains and her heart has taken over - it takes two mops to clean up all the blood that bleeds out.
RE: Lawyers have no problem finding doctors everywhere in America who are willing to diagnose fake afflictions on demand to support injury claims.
Hillary’s character aside, do you honestly believe her blood clot is FAKE?
I have no idea, but if she wanted to get a Doctor to just say she had a blood clot, I’m sure she would have no problem finding one to do that for her. I certainly wouldn’t put it past her to fake an illness for her own benefit, either.
Hillary has to prove the truth of whatever she says, she has lost any benefit of the doubt.
Bill Safire determined that Hillary was a congenital liar. That's the baseline for Hillary: She lies.
