You've got to hand it to bloviating Brit Piers Morgan. While he got most of the facts wrong in his recent targeting of the Second Amendment, it hasn't stopped him from moving on to even more formidable targets.
Such as the Bible.
He says the book is "inherently flawed" -- and needs to be amended.
Piers handed down his decree while interviewing Saddleback Church pastor Rick Warren on the December 24th "Piers Morgan Tonight." Yes, on Christmas Eve. When other hosts might be discussing love, brotherhood, salvation, and all things ethereal, Captain Morgan was giving us the world according to Piers. And how would he improve the Good Book? Said he, "Both the Bible and the Constitution were well intentioned, but they are basically, inherently flawed. Hence the need to amend it. My point to you about gay rights, for example; it's time for an amendment to the Bible."
Well, Piers, we're so blessed to have you to correct both America's founding document and the most influential book in history. We had to suffer more than 200 years with one and more than 2000 with the other, but the right god-man has finally come along. Oh, and when you're done with that, old boy, can you contact the Genome Project and rewrite the human genetic code for us? We're flawed, too. To Warren's credit, he politely but firmly disagreed, responding to the amendment call by saying:
What I believe is flawed is human opinion because it constantly changes. [...]What was hot is now not. [...]My definition of Truth is: if it's new, it's not true. If it was true a thousand years ago, it'll be true a thousand years from today; opinion changes, but Truth doesn't. To this Morgan quite predictably responded, "We're going to agree to disagree on that."

Perhaps Morgan would do better in the self analysis of his navel.

I say that person is not a Christian. I have found that most who disagree with the bible or parts thereof do so for self serving purposes. They find it difficult to follow the teachings because of a lack of depth in their character. So instead of following the teachings, they want to change them. This shows weakness and is cowardly. I hope I am not being too harsh. Can’t think of any other way of framing my opinion.

I was certainly raised that way, if you call Southern Baptists "Christians".
I did learn to think and question at some point, so I guess I am first and foremost a pragmatist these days.

My penny toward his ticket home went in the mail this morning.....scotch taped to a recipe-type card, the card carrying my heartfelt sentiments to Piers and CNN, also.
If the CNN mail room and editors are dis-inclined to put the pennies in Moron's in-box, they can donate them to charity (as I wrote on the card).
Here's a chance to really do something useful, as well as fun, about these media leftists who are corrupting OUR air waves with their socialist, marxist, leftist, pacifist, atheistic, hedonistic, chicken-shiite propaganda.
Let's flood CNN with these pennies putting forth some real FR activism (which has been rather luke-warm recently, gloom. The Bible was written by a committee of unknown folks, mostly using only one name as their nom de plume. No it wasn't. It is a collection of books written at various times, many of the authors are known and others can be identified by their style. In fact, we know a good deal more about many of the authors than we do about generally accepted historical authors like Julius Caesar and the Venerable Bede. But people seem to have some sort of exclusive super-authenticity test for the Bible.
The Bible was approved as a canon of authentic and authenticated books by Biblical scholars (we know their names - St. Jerome is prominent among them), and then approved by several church councils after considerable study and debate (and we know the names of the participants).
has been translated and amended dozens, hundreds or maybe even thousands of times. Not really - even if you count every language the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel translated it into, even the oddball ones like Scots Gaelic and Gullah. And if you're worried about that, it's a simple matter to learn Greek and read it in the original (while the OT is obviously in Hebrew, when Jesus quotes the OT he quotes the Septuagint, which was the Greek translation of the OT made in Alexandria some time in the 3rd c. B.C.) A semester or two of Classical Greek will fit you for reading the Bible in the original (I had two years and it's a cinch. It's written in very simple Greek which was the lingua franca of the Mediterranean at the time).
As for the interpretation thing, stick to the classical and avoid the new and trendy and you won't go far wrong. There is very little actual disagreement amongst traditional Biblical scholars, but folks who want to use Scripture for their own purposes (yes, Kate Schori, I am looking at you) often dishonestly torture the meaning. But they are pretty easy to nose out - they're the ones with the empty churches. Or the empty Nielsen ratings.
The fact that you find yourself in company with a twee little twinkletoes like Piers Stefan Pughe-Morgan (O'Meara wasn't good enough for him?) should give you a clue that you've taken a wrong turn here.

Of course not. It is your understanding of how it was transmitted and compiled that is flawed.
Otherwise I would be on your side of thinking.

The Bible was written under the direction of The Holy Spirit by authors. You challenging God? The way we interpreted it may differ, but The Word was, is, and will be The Truth.

Talking of translations, I just got hold of the Knox Bible (Ronald, not John) and am enjoying it very much. It employs the principles of "dynamic translation" as correctly conceived (not the tortured excuse for vapid political correctness seen in the NAB) - how would a native English speaker say what the original says, and be understood by most native speakers across time?
In the end, and on your knees begging, you will not. Your opinion puts you firmly in his class. IMHO.
