Above the Law? Howard Kurtz Scolds D.C. Police for Investigating NBC's David Gregory
NewsBusters ^

Howard Kurtz of The Daily Beast has some tough talk for the D.C. Police investigating NBC's David Gregory. In an interview with the NRA's Wayne LaPierre on Sunday's Meet the Press, Gregory had produced an high capacity magazine on-air in violation of D.C. gun laws, thus attracting a police investigation.

Kurtz lamely implied that although Gregory broke the law, he shouldn't be prosecuted for it. "But the D.C. Police Department apparently has nothing better to do than examine whether he violated the city’s gun laws," Kurtz scoffed in his column at the Daily Download.

Gregory clearly broke the law. Should journalists be above the law? Kurtz thinks Gregory shouldn't be prosecuted:

"The late word that NBC requested, and failed to receive, permission from the police certainly complicates the matter. But I don’t think Gregory was planning to commit any crimes," argues Kurtz.

Of course Gregory is above the law.

1) He's a lib. 2) He's a member of Pravda USA.

"But the D.C. Police Department apparently has nothing better to do than examine whether he violated the city’s gun laws"

Or investigate any other citizen who sensibly desires to legally possess a firearm in that city.

"But I don’t think Gregory was planning to commit any crimes," argues Kurtz.

Most owners of firearms aren't planning to commit crimes, either.

You does the crime, you does the time. Should get at least 1 year and 3 years probation for felony possession of a machine gun magazine.

There does seem to be some small thread of commonality in all this.

Just saying.

Feinstein. Kurtz. Bloomberg. Not making too much out of it, but do not ignore it either.

Just saying.

No no no.. David Gregory cannot be treated any different than the rest of us, Howard. Back away from your bias and look at this as it should be. Gregory should not have a pass.( Now, would you write this same line if it had been Wayne of the NRA had done something wrong while on that same program) Head to desk.

So, Kurtz decides to become an accessory after the fact.

Maybe these pukes can be given adjoining cells!

That is pretty funny.

Today I saw some libs on the Dem channel defending the publishing registered gun owners names and addresses. They talked like they were child molesters.

"But I don’t think Gregory was planning to commit any crimes," argues Kurtz.

He certainly was planning to commit a crime.

He was planning to possess a high capacity magazine with in the confines of Washington D.C. where that is a crime.

So I guess that is actually two crimes because planning to commit a crime is also a crime. He conspired with his producers and staff to commit this crime.

If D.C. police don’t go after Gregory, they end up with a black eye. The law is stupid, but should apply equally for all.

The story is NBC asked the DC Police if it could be done and they said no.

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
If this is the case, it has to be pursued.
If he had just done it, and not really been caught with in his possession, a slap on the wrist is fine.

If they asked permission and it was denied, then they did it anyway, that is just giving the finger to the police.

Same in construction, if something ‘minute’ is iffy and can be answered with a ‘no’, best thing is to do it and hope everything comes out okay.
If you ask the inspector and he (rightfully) says no, if you go ahead and do it, you have just bought yourself a whole lot of problems if it gets discovered - and they will be looking for it once you mentioned it.

Kind of like the people caught with guns in airports who say they didn’t know they were in their carryons? People who are fined for having guns and ammo in the same compartment in their car? They don’t “intend” to commit any crimes, they just do.

Gregory should pay, just like all of those people.

If I was a lawyer representing anyone else on a simular crime in D.C. I would use this to tear a new A$$ in the law.

If this had been someone on the corner outside the T.V station they would have went straight to jail without passing go.

Some can't be more equal than others.
