CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. —
Tammy Wilson is referencing scripture, 1 Samuel Chapter 16, Verse 7, and looking through her purse to find her Bible.
Turns out it's in her work bag, which just means she'll go from memory.
"It's not the countenance of a man nor the height," she begins. "But the heart."
And then Russell Wilson's mother begins to speak of the difference between fact and truth. The fact that her son, the Seahawks' quarterback, stands short of 6 feet does not define the truth of his abilities. And the fact her husband was once feared brain dead did not override the truth he walked out of a hospital on his own and was able to see their oldest son married and the youngest one drafted before he passed away.
"The Lord does not look at the things people look at," the verse from Samuel continues. "People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."
And then Russell Wilson's mother puts her own words to that message, delivering it in a honeyed Virginia accent you could listen to all day long, even as her eyes flash the resolve she and her husband passed along to their three children.
"Don't be defined by what other people say," she says.
And right here you begin to understand how her son has come to shine in Seattle.

Wilson is a beast. A man of great character. I am amazed at how many dedicated men of God are pro-football atheletes. Wilson, RGIII, Tebow, half the Packer’s team, and many, many more.
I think the Seahawks will be in the Super Bowl.. Right now they have the momentum..
As Husker I am still hurt at what he did to us last year (not to mention what the Badger did this year), but it’s good to hear about his faith. It’s always comforting to hear about these kinds of figures standing strong with the Lord. And I was especially happy they beat the 49ers, for no other reason than it is the San Francisco 49ers.

And he turned down a $1 million offer from the Baltimore Orioles to pursue playing football.
He’ll have to go through the ATL if he wants to get to the SB.
Let him get 10 years as a top-tier QB through personnel, coaching and system changes.
This sounds too much like Tebow-mania to me.
It is always ridiculous that someone has a good run and is crowned “the Next Big Deal.” Even more ridiculous it happens EVERY year.
Right now Atlanta is struggling.. In today’s NFL the team the has the hottest streak now tends to make it to the Super Bowl.
I suspect that Denver or New England will be in, most likely Denver, but the Seahawks will be hard-pressed to win playoff games on the road. I think Atlanta, Green Bay, or SF would take them at their home. But you never know in sports. Turnovers and a few big plays can make all the difference. It would be huge if the Seahawks win their final home game and Arizona comes up with a miracle at Candlestick so that Seattle wins their division. How big was that victory in which the temp refs gave one to Seattle with the blown call?
Atlanta is struggling? 34-0 beatdown of the Giants and a beating to the Lions Monday night. Matt Ryan’s QBR is above 142 the last 2 games.They are playing as well as anybody.
Russell Wilson? Overcoming the odds? He’s a good story but he was still a third round pick.Compare that to Kurt Warner(undrafted) who never got a chance till he was 28 bounced around as backups and then went the arena league.
A little different than Tebow. This kid can scramble and actually throw really well. Don’t know that he will make it to the top tier, but he is dedicated, disciplined, smart, has good mechanics, and is a quick learner. Brady, P. Manning, and Rogers are really in a class of their own.
Kurt Warner’s story was remarkable.
He and the Seahawks sure kicked the snot out of my 49ers. Wow!
The 49ers were coming off an emotional win the week before. It was easy to see a letdown. They were missing there best defensive lineman in Justin smith. They played 92 snaps defensively compared to an average of 62 the week before. They were clearly tired. It was a great win for the Seahawks but I wouldn’t count out the 49ers yet. Although there passing game is of serious concern now
Seattle will be hard pressed to beat the 9ers at Candlestick but SF met a monster defense last night. It was amazing to see how the Seattle defense stopped Gore (Frank, not Al) and held the SF running game to 82 yards.
Fellow disappointed Husker: I honestly believe that if we don’t beat a very good Georgia team in the upcoming bowl game, that Pelini has got to be dismissed. If we do beat Georgia, I might reconsider—it’s just that we have yet to beat a great football team in the Pelini era. We’ve had many opportunities and apparently can’t get beyond mediocrity.
We Huskers are spoiled, and mediocrity on a Terry Donahue-type level (9-4, 10-4 seasons etc) is just NOT OK.
We need to return to prominence and legitimately be in the National Championship calculus on a regular basis. The program is still so storied and powerful, but we’ve lost the mystique we used to command (though I admit OU and two of the Florida teams used to give us fits fairly regularly!)
Hope the Huskers can beat the Dawgs. If not, Pelini loses any remaining credibility he may have had. Our players are just as good as the Bama/Oregon/Notre Dame-level players and with excellent coaching, they should be able to play and win championships again. Pelini hasn’t extracted that potential to-date at all, and if he can’t kick some ass against Georgia, I’ve definitely had enough of him (and his ridiculous tantrums as well).
