Islamists in Mali have begun destroying remaining mausoleums in the historic city of Timbuktu, an Islamist leader and a tourism official said.

I wouldn't rule out the possibility that a few rare individuals have contributed something of value to humanity in that time, but I'll be damned if I can cite you a single instance.

I think something more effective would be to make sure the internet is open keyed to all the repressive governments seeking to take control of the net via the UN.
Once the peeple see and better understand the west, gain some knowledge, and understand how the outside functions, their leaders will have one helluva problem.
