American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten issued the following statement in reaction to National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierres press conference today:
After remaining silent for an entire week following the Newtown massacre, the NRAs first comments were to call for more guns in our schools and our society. This is both irresponsible and dangerous. No matter how much money the NRA spends or propaganda it tries to spread, one thing is clearthe NRA is not serious about confronting the epidemic of gun violence in our nation. Schools must be safe sanctuaries, not armed fortresses. Anyone who would suggest otherwise doesnt understand that our public schools must first and foremost be places where teachers can safely educate and nurture our students.

Within an hour of the incident, there were scores of guns all over Sandy Hook Elementary. Its simple...do you want two retired police concealed carrying or 30 armed SWAT members looking for survivors? Apparently there are few teachers intelligent and rational enough to be teaching children.

Maybe we can just turn it over to the TSA. Why? Don't you believe individual school districts are capable of hiring qualified people?

Youve had plenty of shootings in your home school? Ummm, care to expand on that? I think DaveyB was inferring that they've schooled their kids in basic shooting skills and safety as a part of their home school activities. That's what my wife and I have done with ours.

Liberal indoctrination and socialist brainwashing aside...what conservative who loves their children would entrust them to such fools? Believe it or not, plenty of conservatives entrust their precious children to these leftist monsters every day. And then they wonder why their kids vote for Communists when they hit eighteen.

The difference, for the record, is the uniform (and the whole government part, these will be volunteers.) Armed security or police are first targets. Retired weapons-trained “hall monitors” let’s call them, with CCW are harder to target until they shoot back. Trained staff is best.
I’m saying I want Mr. Smith, the Gym teacher, Mrs. Wilson the school principal, and Mr. Johnson the retired Air Force lieutenant to carry concealed, not uniformed guards.
