When National Rifle Association leader Wayne LaPierre took the stage on Friday to address the media about last weeks elementary school massacre, he made it clear multiple times that the organization has issues with how the press reports on guns.
At one point, LaPierre said the media demonize lawful gun owners, amplify their cries for more laws and fill the national debate with misinformation and dishonest thinking.
If the NRA doesnt like reporters, the feeling is apparently mutual.
As Jeffrey Goldberg, a national correspondent for The Atlantic, put it:
Reporters on my Twitter feed seem to hate the NRA more than anything else, ever.

Here are some of the views expressed by reporters and editors from news outlets including Talking Points Memo, Politico, The New York Times and The Huffington Post on Twitter during LaPierres speech:
LaPierre as delusional as any dictator. His speech against music videos, hurricanes has the feel of a Castro rant or Mugabe tirade.
The Huffington Posts Jason Cherkis (@jasoncherkis) December 21, 2012
In Wayne LaPierres defense, tone-deafness is a serious condition that afflicts hundreds of thousands of Americans.

Wayne LaPierre should have just given this speech to an empty chair on a stage

No two ways about: This is gross, awful, dishonest.
Talking Points Memos Josh Marshall (@joshtpm) December 21, 2012
What is this NRA guy talking about? Blame hurricanes. Blame media. Its so strange.
Politicos Ben White (@morningmoneyben) December 21, 2012
This is nuts.

If it wasnt for all the dead children, the #NRA press conference might have been amusing.
The New York Times Jonathan Weisman (@jonathanweisman) December 21, 2012
Stallone movie meets Fidel Castro speech
Politicos Alex Burns (@aburnspolitico) December 21, 2012
Many of the same reporters were infuriated that the NRA wouldnt take questions.
Its amazing how much damage LaPierre is doing to the NRA without even allowing questions.
The Washington Posts Ezra Klein (@ezraklein) December 21, 2012
Reporters should walk out of this press conference right now, if hes not taking questions. Otherwise, its just a propaganda event. #Newtown

I watched it and disagree... Wayne made the left look like Nazis... because they are Nazis.

Does that mean MSM journalists live in unarmed zones?
Betcha a dollar that plenty of them have guns themselves - they just don’t want other people to have guns.
for every one person who joined the group, that represents 10 voters who think the same way as the group.
10,000 new members in one day means 100,000 voters
this is the smart way to fight the covernment. The first amendment has redress of grievences. It is not just speech, assembly, and religion.
Now I pray people start mobilizing for 2014. Now is the time to oranize. Purge the kook opportunists who never win but the MSM loves. Primary the rinos. Put up only ARTICULATE and sane candidates.
Reporters demonstrating just how infantile they actually are. Ezra Klein and David Corn? A couple of leftist punks who would never dream of “walking out” of an Obama press conference if he didn’t answer questions.
CNBC and other channels had reporters falling all over themselves saying they personally did not own arms.
Yeah, keep bashing the NRA. That’ll help.
I watched most of it (as interrupted by network). Wayne covered all the points. Look at carefully at what he really said. I give him an A+ for content, spelling, grammer and punctuation.

A media response yesterday to ‘guards in each school’ was that then the bad guys would move to malls and other places.
So we leave the children as unprotected sacrifices to protect the malls??????
Glad to see you do have fight for this issue... and I agree with you.

The hysterical, hate-filled, so called journalists are Democrats hurling out their vomit covered incoherence. Faced with the light of truth, they know not how to conduct a rationale discussion about the correlation between guns and crime. Armed citizens means no crime.
The "journalists," like the current administration, believe that only the government (and criminals) should have guns. Unable to take guns away from criminals, the cowards want your guns instead.
I disagree with your points 1 and 3.
I strongly agree with your point 2. What the heck? Two of these clown get in — and then only get escorted out 5 minutes after they unfurl their banners and protest?
Absolutely NOT. Why give the anti 2nd Amendment media even more exposure. They never have to answer our questions.
If schools don’t need armed officers, why the heck do they call armed police officers when these shootings start?
Good, I hope they post their addresses.
*coughCARLROWANcough*
One problem. This was not a press conference, it was a statement. Why won’t our guys answer questions and sell their position. By doing this the media spins the story.
I have been reading all day and this statement is being made into a national joke. Does anyone think this was helpfull? Why do this? Going dark until emotions calm was a good idea. He should have waited until after the holidays.
“BE WARY OF THE MEDIA-INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX!”
Enemies foreign and DOMESTIC.
It would make no difference. One cannot reason with the irrational and willingly ignorant.
