Harry Reid: 'We Are Not Going to Do Anything'
weekly standard ^ | 12/20/12 | d halper

Senate majority leader Harry Reid, a Democrat, made his "fiscal cliff" position clear in a press conference today. "We are not going to do anything," said Reid.

Reid added, "We are not taking up anything they are working on over there."

The top Democrat in the Senate was explaining his inaction on the House plan, the proposal put forward by Republican John Boehner, the speaker of the House of Representatives. Boehner's plan is being referred to as 'Plan B.'

"Boehner described his Plan B as a fallback option to prevent a sweeping tax hike when tax cuts from the administration of President George W. Bush expire at the end of the year. Sources said the Boehner measure also would include extending the current estate tax and alternative minimum tax, two steps sought by Republicans," reports CNN.

The 'Plan B' option tracks closely to a proposal put forward by Democrats earlier this year.

But now Reid won't even allow the Senate to vote on Boehner's proposal.

In the past, Reid has indicated he'd be open to compromising. "We are willing to compromise," he said earlier this month, "but we also will not consign the middle class to higher tax bills while millionaires and billionaires avoid all the pain."

Now that Republicans have a serious proposal that would pass the House and would seem to meet the requirements Democrats previously insisted on, Reid won't permit a vote.

Then “No Budget Harry” has no further need to foul the Senate chamber.

Pelosi made it clear yesterday that Democrats are not negotiating in good faith when she admitted that Democrats are only trying to "smoke Republicans out" with the negotiations.

They are using the ruse of negotiations to trap Republicans into moving towards new positions that are in conflict with past positions. Once they do that, they will turn against Republicans by bashing them with flip-flops and faked admissions that Republican tax philosophy is wrong and never worked.

The MSM will gladly play their part.

“”We are not going to do anything,” said Reid.”

This is Harry Reid. He is a slimeball who made a career out of never doing anything. The Senate has not produced a budget in 4 years though they are constitutionally and legally bound to do so. He has done nothing to control the irresponsible spending in Washington, in fact he is responsible for much of it.

Reid is involved in slimy, corrupt land deals and an enormous amount of corruption. He is never going to do anything useful or constructive.

Boehner and his wussy sidekick Cantor are probably wetting themselves trying to come up with a way to give Obama everything he wants.

If this vote in the House allows Obama to increase taxes on the wealthiest Americans, I'm changing my party affiliation. They do this, and the GOP are dead to me!

Exactly. It’s what he should have done all along. Let them Dems decide how to go forward with that.

RE :”All the GOP needs to do is to use this quote in nauseum to demonstrate what the American people are really up against.
The libs want everyone’s taxes raised.”

And they will gut the filibuster next year to keep Genate GOP from forcing them to take it up.

As I been posting:

1) Pass plan B in house
2) Get all House and Senate R members into drama school to learn how to ham it up on TV like O does.
3) Then Get on TV over and over and weep for the middle class taxpayer due to Obama’s political games. Really look concerned and upset. Its show-time!

#4 is the most important:

STOP CALLING FOR HOUSE REPUBLICANS TO DRIVE US OFF THE CLIFF!

So the GOP remaining silent as the the presidency is usurped, twice, is no problem for you. But as soon as they decide to raise taxes on the rich, you're done with them. You deserve Obama and and the spineless GOP.

Get a better GOP leadership for a start.

Harry Reid has let the senate out for Christmas.
This bill is going NOWHERE, fast.
This bill is nothing more that a “test” vote for the coming
Grandest of All Bargains. Bonehead want to see who votes for
this bill and who doesn’t.

This bill is meaningless. And if it is meaningless, why would
you put your members in a position to vote for Tax Increase.
So, to answer your question, Bonehead should have done what
Reid just did in the senate. Send the members home.

"Who died and made Harry king?"

All of the "Pincipled Conservatives" who sat on their hands, didn't vote and "sent the GOP a strong message".

Elections, like temper tantrums, have consequences...especially when you let the Liberals play you like a cheap banjo.

Now that Harry Reid has made it clear that the Senate will NOT take up the House’s Plan B bill if passed, and the President has also made it clear that HE will NOT sign a Plan B bill, there is no reason for the House Republicans to do anything but leave Washington.

Why would John Boehner force his Republican House colleagues, many of whom have solemnly pledged never to raise taxes, to approve a bill raising taxes when there is no chance whatsoever that the bill will become law?

The Republicans should get out of Washington NOW, as urgently as if the entire city were on fire. Any extra minute that the Republicans remain in town is an extra minute that John Boehner may well use to do something stupid in that will hurt the Republicans. Go. Now.

I will tell you why.

Because this bill is nothing more than a “test” vote for
Bonehead and Cantor. They want to know who votes for and against.
So when the Grandest of All Bargains is ready for a vote,
they would have had time to threaten or bribe the no votes
on this bill. And time to gather some RAT votes, as well
just like Bonehead did with the Debt Ceiling Grandest of all Bargains.

Boehnhead should have stopped with Plan A - anything more simply signifies that there can be Plans B, C, D,... ZZZ.

Its quite simple, don’t do anything back! Republicans (with balls) understand that the party will be blamed antways so why not act in this Countries best interests. Vote NO and go. Let Obama yammer how its the Repubs fault...so what. When we hit the dent ceiling vote NO, and let out President blame us again. What will fix this country is a party that actually say’s NO!
