By now, if you have been paying attention to the pronouncements of Hizzoner, you know that New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg really dislikes, among many other things, guns. He also appears to have engaged in a one-man crusade to convince politicians that, if the President of the United States can be reelected without the support of the National Rifle Association, so too can the most rural Congressman or Southern Senator. The logic of that belief is debatable, but what is not debatable is the logic that the NRA would go out of their way to defend the indefensible even the personal ownership of a small cannon designed to fire nuclear-tipped artillery shells. Or, at least, so sayeth the mayor.
The U.S. Army has a rifle they call it a rifle, I would call it a cannon; its attached to the front of a tank or a moving vehicle, Bloomberg said on Tuesdays Morning Joe on MSNBC. It shoots a nuclear warhead. The NRA would say, Oh, thats a gun. And people have a right to have that.
Where is the limit here, Bloomberg asked to co-host Mika Brzezinski as she nodded sagely in resigned disapproval.
Im no expert on fire arms, but I would venture that the limit of what the NRA would defend in terms of an individuals Second Amendment rights ends several miles before nuclear cannon. But we are now deep into the hyperbole phase of national tragedy when those with axes to grind or pet projects to advance have already made their case many times over, and flail in search of new and more resonating arguments. Next, we enter the long-anticipated terrible analogy phase.

Thanks for your post. Mark Levin was saying today he hates the term “Gun Control” - it isn’t gun control - it is CITIZEN Control. Goes right with your post - thanks again, will be sharing it with my kids.
Mensa would defend Bloomingidiot’s right to use his brain.
They should re-name Gun Free Zones to Free Fire Zones too.
And I know where I would point it.
This from a man who attached a full-sized room air conditioner to his limo lest he break a sweat? Really?
If we all had a davey crockett, the aliens would NEVER think of invading our planet... well at least not the north american continent....
Agreed, I think that is a good rule of thumb for the limits placed on ciilian arms ownership, the civilians should have access to the same equipment used by ANYONE in ANY goverenment agency who has the potential to interface with them.
It would also give the goverment EXTRA INCENTIVE to actually enforce posse comitatis...
Seems to me the "axe grinders" are all liberals like Dumberg, Feinswine, and Chucky Schmucky Schumer, and the biggest axe grinder of all, Barack Sheik Obama, mmmm mmmm mmmm.
They only become a threat when governments take possession of them.
"Rifles", by definition have spiral cut grooves in the barrel to impart a stabilizing spin to the projectile. Our tanks use smooth bore cannon with fin-stabilized projectiles.
I would support limits on extended clips on nuclear cannons
A Nuclear Cannon? Perfect for home defense.
Great post.
Regards,
Let me be the first to come out in favor of responsible nuclear cannon ownership. Some of the rules: always treat a nuclear cannon like its loaded; never point a nuclear cannon at anything you don’t want to vaporize; know your nuclear cannon target, such as Mecca or rage boy demonstrations anywhere.
He might be the Republican nominee in 2016....who would have thought Romney would have gotten it in 2012 in 2009. You guys will be saying how great Bloomburg is while I bash him and then get bashed from FREEPERS for not being a team player.....the story has been done before many times.
Haha! While Bloomberg goes after guns, I’ll still be able to get my atomic hand grenade!
I don’t think so. The NRA is a bit wishy-washy. Probably because they more money with the threat of gun control than they would if it completely disappeared.
That said, if someone DOES defend the right to own an Atomic Annie, well, God bless ‘em. We need more like ‘em.
We really need to reframe this debate . Instead of letting Bloomberg and the Libs frame this debate by calling them “assault weapons”, we need to label them “self defense guns” and “self defense mags” . That’s what they truly are.
The Libs come up with these buzzwords and make it hard to defend the pro-gun position . We can flip the script and make them defend being called “anti self-defense” .
Nonsense. Justice Scalia has made this clear. The Second Amendment protects the right to BEAR arms, that is, arms that can be carried. Cannons do not apply.
If Bloomberg can even produce an instance of an NRA official saying that the 2nd Amendment gives you the right to own a tank, much less a tank with a nuclear weapon, I’ll eat my hat.
One thing that is sad here is that Bloomberg, an educated man and the mayor of one of the largest cities in the world, has no idea that the function and fire rate of a 9mm pistol and an “assault weapon” like the Bushmaster Lanza used are essentially the same—or he is willing to have people believe he doesn’t so that they don’t understand it.
