A U.S. Marine Corps captain proposed to his partner in front of a Christmas tree at the White House Saturday in the first gay engagement to happen there.
Capt. Matthew Phelps asked his boyfriend Ben Schock to marry him in the grand foyer of the White House, on the six-month anniversary of their first date, which also was at the White House, reported ABC News.
“Our first date was to the White House, so I wanted to propose to him there,” Phelps told ABC News. “When I got invited to the holiday tour — six months to the day that we had been there on our first date — it was way too much of a coincidence to pass up.”
Although Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell was repealed — so Phelps can openly acknowledge the relationship — the Defense of Marriage Act is still in effect and the federal government will not officially acknowledge the marriage.
This means that Schock is not eligible for health insurance from the Corps, and when Phelps is deployed next year, his partner will not have access to their home on the Marine base.

This is really screwy! How then is boy toy living in "their" home *on base* now? Not family housing (yet!), so what's going on, is he an unauthorized permanent "guest" in the housing for single officers? If he doesn't have access to the base without his "Marine", then how can he be legitimately "living" there? Or does he mean in the next location?
And about those orders... something's off about the details or lack thereof. Do regular family members normally accompany Marines when they are deployed (i.e. in a temporary location), or is the Marine *transferring* to Japan, as in permanently detaching from his current location?
I don't know but this looks suspiciously like the Marine is abusing his housing situation on the base or they are whining that he is about to make a permanent move overseas and he can't defile family housing on the base overseas, or both. And why doesn't boy toy have any type of health insurance? Maybe this has to do with his wanting to tag along to Japan and use the medical facilities on the base.
If I had to guess what is the entitlement sob story, it is that unless the boy toy can go to Japan as a military spouse, he knows he's SOL without being sponsored (as a military dependent). No SOFA stamp in his passport means no long-term campsite in Japan for this loser.
It's only a matter of time before DOMA is dead and these weirdos are desecrating family housing and the military community in general with their overt delusional perversions.
