NEWTOWN, Conn. (CNN) – Dick’s Sporting Goods, one of the largest sporting goods retailers in the world, says it has removed all guns from its store nearest to Newtown, Connecticut, and is suspending the sale of certain kinds of semi-automatic rifles from its chains nationwide.
The move was made out of respect for the victims and families of last week’s Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting “during this time of national mourning,” the store said in a statement Tuesday morning.
“We continue to extend our deepest sympathies to those affected by this terrible tragedy,” the statement said.
It was unclear how long the store will keep the suspension in place for the guns, known as ‘modern sporting rifles.’

At one time I thought the 7.62 only came one way.
“I bought the Weatherby Vanguard Deluxe 2 30-06 bolt action at Dick’s last week as my Christmas present. Sunday they placed it on sale for $100 off the price I paid. But they refuse to offer the 30-day price guarantee on firearms. That pi$$ed me off.”
They pizzed me off when I went in to buy a rifle and they wouldnt take the trigger lock off so I could test the trigger pull. Both the clerk and store manager agreed it was a stupid policy but wouldnt violate it. I told them I wouldnt shop in a store that sold guns but didnt trust their customers.
There could be a situation of “law of unintended consequences” here. If people, i.e., the good guys, stop buying guns from Dick’s becaused they’re pissed at this particular vendor, overall sales could go down. We’d know why, but the MSM would report that citizens have finally had enough, guns are finally being seen as the evil things they are, and reduced sales provides a mandate for Hussein, Congress, etc., to move toward outlawing them.
Who knows?
That’s one way to lose sales.
My favorite is 7.62x54R. Every time I shoot my Mosin, I think to myself, “My God those poor bastards who had to shoot this gun over and over again. Must’ve had shoulders of ground beef by the end of the day.”
