U.S. private equity firm Cerberus Capital Management said on Tuesday it will immediately begin selling its investment in gunmaker Freedom Group in light of last week's school shooting in Connecticut.
Cerberus acquired Bushmaster in 2006 and later merged it with other gun companies to create Freedom Group, which reported net sales of $677.3 million for the nine months ending September 2012, up from $564.6 million in the same period a year ago.
Bushmaster is the manufacturer of the AR 15 rifle used by the shooter in the Newtown killings that claimed 27 lives, including 20 school children.
"We do not believe that Freedom Group or any single company or individual can prevent senseless violence or the illegal use or procurement of firearms and ammunition," Cerberus said in a statement.

An investment bank with a name, Cerberus (who was in Greek mythology a muliheaded dog who guarded the gates of the underworld, the dead). Imagine a company that would choose that for a name, first. And then imagine the people who work for them— who and what they must be (pagans, amoralists).
Just one example— check out what these a holes did to Bluebird Bus (a family owned business in Fort Valley, GA) if you want to know.
Eliot Spitzer is absolutely NOONE to talk about this whatsoever.
Have any past lawsuits been successful? Possibly in Conn, but it would be overturned,IMHO. I made a lot of my retirement money in Philip Morris back when it was MO during all of those lawsuits. You could buy the stock, sell calls and wait for it to be called away or just draw the dividend. Course the gun companies don't pay divs like MO.
dont they also make the casul 454?
LOL; he sure was “quirky” and that’s being kind. But yes, he gets a pass.
That, FRiends and neighbours, is a flat-out lie.
So much for your commitment to “Freedom”, Cerberus.
Cowardly scumbags.
Well he did say this was only his second press conference in 31 years. Now we know why. LOL
;^)
Doesn't matter if they have, S&W almost went out of business back in the 90's when they were assaulted by 30 cities suing them, backed by our tax dollars.
The intent wasn't to win but cause them to drown in legal fees......
Yup, guy is a total wacko
Heck with it.
The NYdailynews said “”The two pistols were found inside the school and a .223-caliber Bushmaster rifle was found in the back of his mother’s car in the parking lot.””
I would really like to know what the truth is.
I think it's a good rule of thumb to ignore anything that was written Friday morning or Friday afternoon.
By the way, the sixth comment on the article you linked mentions that it was a shotgun in the car and that the .223 was taken into the school.
I remember this well. The reason they did so poorly was because they were the ONLY gun company to work with Clinton and Reno on the gun bill. I'm sure there are archives here showing how Freepers felt about buying S&W guns during that time.
