WASHINGTON (AP) -- Democratic lawmakers and independent Sen. Joe Lieberman said Sunday that military-style assault weapons should be banned and that a national commission should be established to examine mass shootings in the United States.
The proposals were among the first to come from Congress in the wake of Friday's school shooting in Newtown, Conn.
"Assault weapons were developed for the U.S. military, not commercial gun manufacturers," Lieberman said before a vigil Sunday night in Newtown.
"This is a moment to start a very serious national conversation about violence in our society, particularly about these acts of mass violence," said the Connecticut senator, who is retiring next month.

We don’t need new gun control laws. We need better lunatic control laws. Tuscon, the bat man movie shooter, and now this horrific episode . . . Rampage shootings are almost exclusively perpetrated by the dangerously unbalanced.
But as a social order, we are so hung up on “stigmatizing the handicapped” that we refuse to throw these dangerous sickos in the booby hatch were they belong. Look hard at the nearly inconceivably horrifying carnage in Connecticut; that is the price we are paying because we are afraid of looking “mean”.

How about banning violent video games? The last three mass murderers, this one, Aurora, and Oregon, were all young males who were video game nuts. They all three dressed up like their game “heroes” and shot the place up. If there ever is a cause and effect, this is it.

Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, was the sole representative of gun rights' activists on the various Sunday talk shows. In an interview on "Fox News Sunday," Gohmert defended the sale of assault weapons and said that the principal at Sandy Hook Elementary School, who authorities say died trying to overtake the shooter, should herself have been armed.
Liberal policies have laid waste to more cities than nuclear weapons.
I have read a few posts on FR suggesting that the murderer actually used an AR-15 for most of the killings. Supposedly a Saiga or similar was in the trunk. I hope that I am wrong and that he used only the pistols, but it won’t matter to the Left. Remember that the Brady Campaign madness began over a humble .22 caliber pistol. Don’t even bother with the actual definition of “assault weapon.” These people want anything that goes bang and could be used to carry out the original purpose of the Second Amendment.
To a leftist, an ‘assault weapon’ is any weapon ever used in an assault. It is commie propaganda to scare uninformed people.
THEN they will be happy and they can manipulate everything we think, eat, live, etc.

Several reports have the Bushmaster being the murder weapon.
The Medical Examiner found that all the victims were killed with .223.
