President Barack Obama is not ready to accept a new offer from the Republican leader of the U.S. House of Representatives to raise taxes on top earners in exchange for major cuts in entitlement programs, a source said late on Saturday.
The shape and details of Boehners offer were uncertain Saturday night, as was the exact reason the president was prepared to reject it.
Tax rates and entitlements are the two most difficult issues in the so-far unproductive negotiations to avert the fiscal cliff of steep tax hikes and spending cuts set for the new year unless Congress and the president reach a deal to avoid them.

...watching our country get stuffed down the crapper by elitist snobs who hate us.
Where does it end?
Fine, no deal then. Although Boehner lacks the gutsmto take thatnstand.
So Obama is not sure why he wants to reject it - he just wants to reject it.
Will Boehner get with the program that the President has no intention of "working with him" on this and stop watering things down? Probably not.
And the media narrative will still be that the Republicans won't work with Obama while he and Reid are trying to bend over backwards to "get something done."
Just walk away...the result is going to be the same no matter what.
President Barack Obama... Boehner's offer...Not "Speaker Boehner" or "Congressman Boehner" -- IOW, #### al-Reuters.
Actually the WH has called for 250 not 75 but what does a good deal look like at this time?
The cliff is part of the solution. Defense takes the biggest hit (entitlements are protected) but it’s a start and America’s military won’t go to last place with the cuts. The key is wake America out of its stupor and the cliff is a good start because other than a few sectors the markets will shrug it off. People will start to realize how useless our Keynesian government is. The Senate Dems on the other hand will come crawling begging for a deal because their campaigns depend on Washington bloat. At that point they will agree to some entitlement reform and Obama will be forced to sign it.
When will the Republicans come to an understanding that this President doesn’t want to deal? How stupid (yes, that’s the correct word) can they be? The best thing they can do is throw an offer out there and vote present. Let the Democrats take the heat.
Egads, I’m so sick of this.
Obama wants to go over the cliff, t was his intention all along.
We have allowed too much power to the Executive for too long. It’s time to rein in the power of the Presidency.
Great. Just great.
In other news, the patient refuses to allow doctors to stop his arterial bleeding, but agrees to have himself shot in the foot. It's a start.

Congress has plenty of power. They can simply refuse to increase the borrowing limit in a few weeks. Then spending will really be cut. Boenhner should have made this known to Obama by now, but he won’t do it. He must go.
At this point, Boehner should say in a memo to Obama:
FROM: Speaker of the House of Representives
TO: POTUS
SUBJ: Fiscal and Taxing Negotiations
1. What you have on the table is our last and best offer. As of this moment, the House Republicans are ready to affirm this through a vote, and it will pass, and I`m giving you until 3 p.m. today to accept this offer. if 3 p.m. comes and goes without acceptance of this offer... IN TOTALITY from you, I`m releasing the House to spend Christmas holidays with their families. After the tragic events in Connecticut on Friday, members of Congress want to hug their children, too.
2. Yes, you won your re-election... as did we. So, enough back-and-forth, and enough games. I`m going public in five minutes with this offer, and will continue to be public with it. As I stressed earlier, this is our last and best offer.
A real millionaires tax offer, isnt this what chucky the dirtbag wanted
Bump
This movie has played over and over again and the ending is the same.
The deal will include tax increases on the rich in exchange for entitlement cuts which will be slated to occur years if not decades in the future.
Why anyone thinks it will be different this time stymies me.
Then why should the other side compromise?
It’s all smoke and mirrors anyway. The pols in leadership position aren’t really serious about really fixing the problem.
Boner is bought and paid for.
