Banning gun-free zones and allowing teachers to carry concealed weapons could help eliminate mass shootings at schools, gun-control expert John R. Lott told Newsmax in an exclusive interview Saturday.
Lott, an author and college professor, told Newsmax that gun-free zones become a magnet for deranged killers who hope to burn their names into the history books by running up a big body count.
Lotts landmark book "More Guns, Less Crime: Understanding Crime and Gun Control Laws" is in its 3rd edition. He told Newsmax there is a very good chance the Connecticut school shooting could have been averted, if teachers there were permitted to carry concealed handguns.
It is no accident, he said, that mass shootings repeatedly have occurred in designated gun-free zones, which attract lunatics looking to murder as many souls as possible before they turn their guns on themselves.

While I agree that most of them don't think of leaving a legacy in the same terms you or I do, I think many of these killers are so egocentric they certainly intend to make their mark and go out in twisted "blaze of glory."
Klebold and Harris wrote specifically about making an impression and outdoing Mcveigh's body count. Cho (VA Tech) made sure that his videotape to ABC and NBC was in the mail before he set out. Anders Breivik repeatedly asked his interrogators if he had broken any records for body count.
Certainly these people are all mentally ill and I would wager that they all have their own unique reasons, but I think in many cases, they have the intent of making sure others know they are somebody *important*. There are many other examples in those caseswhere we have at least some insight to motive that these people were driven by the impression they were trying to make. Their agression and violence are simply a means to that end.
When I remember the teachers I had . . .
With exceptions I can count on one hand, I really would not entrust them with sharp scissors.
,,and then the suicidal types looking for headlines and body count target the
MILITARY TYPES AND RETIRED COPS FIRST!
Great pic.

Lock downs means the teacher locks the door from the inside and pushes a file cabinet or something heavy in front of the door which opens in. That slows down a shooter big time. This happened at Sandy Hook. A teacher was on TV saying they didn’t push the blockades away from the door until the police slid their badges under the door, and they got phone calls that it was safe to come out.
It's official - many of us were experts way before we ever heard of this guy...
An M1 Carbine no less.
This style of carry is a good compromise between secure carry and relative ease of mounting.
Rational people would be going out the windows or exiting as fast as possible.
Also, a guard has less “skin in the game”. When SHTF, he has less incentive to in fact engage the shooter and risk his life (very cushy and safe up to that point) where he is not involved at the moment; his prime motivation at that moment will be to “call for backup”, waiting for others to engage the attacker. Happens too often.
An armed teacher, on the other hand, is the target (or a close part of the targeted group) and is highly motivated to stop the shooter RIGHT NOW as the only path to safety.
It's not either or - have the lethal guard AND arm teachers.
Just as people should have the right to carry weapons they should also have the right not to.

How true.
In a ‘civilian’ situation you definitely do not want anyone armed that doesn’t want to be.
AND, when the inevitable SHTF situations arises and ‘they’ screw up, the first thing you hear is “I TOLD YOU SO”.
Same as driving a car....If one does not want to get behind the wheel, the last place you want him is there.
