But there was fresh controversy on Wednesday night after an alternative non-binding resolution was debated which suggested the UN agency's leadership should "continue to take the necessary steps for ITU to play an active and constructive role in the development of broadband and the multi-stakeholder model of the internet." I wouldnt trust the UN to develop a bowling league let alone something as important as the Internet.
The UN wants to become the One World Government and are seeking to control anything that will further that goal. If you can control the Internet you can control the major source of news and information. If you control news and information you can basicly control world opinion.
One of the major problems with the UN is that it is coming to be dominated by authoritarian states (many of them Islamic states).

The US, Canada, Australia and UK have refused to sign an international communications treaty at an conference in Dubai. The UN desperately needs adult leadership. It is time to review and simplify the mission and funding of this out-of-control organization. At a minimum the USA should review its role in the funding and mission of the UN. Why are we punishing ourselves by enabling an organization that seeks to harm us? What are the cost/benefits ratios for all of the accomplishments of the UN?
The UN is dominated by non-democratic countries that we fund. Why?

This is really good news. I figured we would go along with it, given who is in the White House and the kind of people in his Administration.

A proposal from Russia, China, Saudi Arabia, Algeria and Sudan calling for equal rights for all governments to manage "internet numbering, naming, addressing and identification resources" was eventually shelved. That particular group of countries couldn't manage a hot dog stand, let alone any sort of high-tech operation.
