When all hell brakes loose I don't see how hunkering down in a corner or under a desk is going to be much help. They've got to get out of Dodge and do it quickly.

With the conflicting reports we're reading on this incident, if there were a dozen killed you have to wonder if the shooter went room to room. Were the kids sitting ducks? What a nightmare.

When the police got into the building, they told the children to start running and not stop until they got to the nearby fire station. I have never seen how sitting all together in an unlocked (or barely locked) room is going to do anything except make it easier for the shooter.

When my daughter was in high school, there was a kid we thought might snap one day, and my advice to her at the time if something like that happened was to run away fast and swerve left and right like a running rabbit so that the shooter couldn't draw a bead on you.
