Glenn Beck Defends Gay Marriage: Republicans Need To 'Expand Our Own Horizon'
Business Insider ^ | 12/11/2012 | Grace Wyler

Posted on 12/11/2012 9:48:27 AM PST by SeekAndFind

Conservative firebrand Glenn Beck has joined a growing chorus of Republican commentators in defending gay marriage, laying out a strong case for ending government opposition to letting same-sex couples wed.

"Let me take the pro-gay marriage people and the religious people — I believe that there is a connecting dot there that nobody is looking at, and that's the Constitution," Beck said during a recent segment of his online talk show. "The question is not whether gay people should be married or not. The question is why is the government involved in our marriage?"

While Beck's defense of gay marriage may seem surprising, given his far-right political views and audience, it is actually not new. Earlier this year, Beck said that he has the "same opinion on gay marriage as President Barack Obama" and does not see same-sex unions as a "threat to America."

Still, Beck's public renewal of his support for gay marriage comes at a politically significant moment for the GOP, which is working to reshape its message to appeal to a changing electorate. A Gallup survey released last week found that 53 percent of Americans are in favor of legalizing gay marriage, a number that has been steadily growing for the past decade.

Moreover, by couching his support for gay marriage in a libertarian framework, Beck makes the case for the right to look past differences on social issues in order to broaden their coalition to include all limited government conservatives.

"What we need to do, I think, as people who believe in the Constitution, is to start looking for allies who believe in the Constitution and expand our own horizon," Beck said. "We would have the ultimate big tent."

"Until we remove abortion, gay rights, etc off the table at a national level we will NEVER win another national election."

This is exactly what the GOP wants to eventually force through----total removal of social issues from the platform.

When it happens, they can damned well win elections without my help.

Take note that the left EMPHASIZES their perverted social issues in every election, and yet we are expected to keep our mouths shut about infant murder and sodomites running wild.

It's not happening...at least not in my neck of the woods.

"Beck was not a supporter of Romney during the primaries at all Jim. Beck got behind Romney for one reason - at least he isn’t a communist.

If you don’t listen to Beck regularly don’t claim you know where he stands."

I used to listen to him fairly regularly. Up until recently, I had an email from Pat Gray in my box, vigorously defending Romney and saying he would make a much better president than Newt Gingrich.

That email was sent to me during the primaries, when Beck was supposedly veering from Bachmann to Santorum and back again.

LOL...really. Do you believe the GOP actually supports those planks in their actions?

You are obviously on the wrong forum. We do not support the normalization of homosexual sex here like YOU do.

YOU are pushing some sick perversion here and calling it liberty. HOWEVER, you fool no one -your perversion promotion is quite evident and condemned here. YOUR sick views will never be accepted as normal here. IF you want to be thought of as normal try DU...

First of all, you present the imperfection in the state issue strategy. Which is fine, I NEVER said the state strategy was perfect. By the way, our Founders said we should pursue a “more perfect union,” meaning they too knew that any attempt for perfection would be guaratneed to fail.

Second, you ask me what will “I” do, as if I will be personally involved in every screwy marriage the crosses the NC state line. I will not be.

I simply want the taxing, spending and no-knock drug raids to stop.

Your simple concerns are money and drugs. "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money." Matt 6:24

Working on the Sabbath is a sin.

NO IT IS NOT!!

I worry about my own sins, and let others worry about theirs. The freedom to worship as we choose, or not to worship, is a basic right this Nation was founded upon.

What does worship and your sins have to do with supporting and it being a hate crime if you don't bow to the homos and the laws that where put in place for these perverts?

Don't talk about our basic right - when a minister must marry perverts and wedding halls must marry these perverts otherwise they get sued and kids being taught to accept the homo lifestyle is normal. You are clueless and only 'dabbling' in the Bible makes you useless.

I have no time for you.

You make some valid points, so what do you want to see done, and please keep your answer within the realm of things that have a snowballs chance of actually happening.

I can fantasize about what I’d like to see done, but when it comes to a strategic comment, which mine was, I defer to the possible, or even the likely.

I also tire of people who can’t decide if they want to battle this on moral grounds, or whether they want to get all caught up in Federal pensions and stuff like that.

Or, looked at another way, money is property, and property is what we trade for our time and our talents, meaning we trade money for a piece of our lives.

I know you hate to recognize it, but money is INDEED A MORAL ISSUE becuase issues of taxation and regulation are really matters of THEFT of a man’s life. Think about it.

xzins...stated homosexuality was illegal for many years and since homosexuals have diseases related to their life-style then it becomes a matter of federal government to protect the rest of us from their diseases.

The only freaking reason the fedgov is involved in trying to protect marriage (via the DOMA act) is because sodomy practioners and their leftist pals FORCED it on ALL the states! By huge nanny fedgov! They started it! As you well know.

That one question turned into the hate-filled rhetoric against gay people.

Only homosexuals and leftists call the truth about the homosexual agenda and the truth about the homosexual lifestyle "hateful rhetoric". You did not disprove anything xzins said. You are using typical leftist and libertarian tactics all over this thread. BTW, you never addressed any of my points to you in my several comments. Strawman and character sliming are your tactics, not rational debate. Or maybe you're arguing with the voices in your head.

You make some valid points, so what do you want to see done, and please keep your answer within the realm of things that have a snowballs chance of actually happening.

I would propose the following laws:

1) A federal law which would refuse to recognize any same sex or other deviant marriage (such as polygamy or incest) for any purpose of receiving or qualifying for any Federal benefit or benefit program such as social security, pensions, military pensions, survivor benefits, etc.

2) A federal law that would make any same sex or other deviant marriage that is performed in one state automatically void in all other states regardless of whether or not the other state recognizes or solemnizes such deviant marriages.

3) A Federal law which would make all same sex marriages or other deviant marriages void if performed in any US Territory or protectorate or any military base or any country in which the United States has a military presence.

4) A federal law prohibiting members of the military from entering into any same sex or other deviant marriage and making any such marriage not only void but also grounds for dishonorable discharge.

We could start with these.

These are not outside the realm of possibility. Remember even California voted to outlaw homosexual and other deviant marriages. That was just a couple of years ago. I still see bumper stickers on priuses being driven by homos calling for "no" on prop 8. They are not going to give up so easily. Neither should we.

I know you hate to recognize it, but money is INDEED A MORAL ISSUE

What wrong's with you, you have NO IDEA what I believe - and what I hate to recognize - YOU ONLY ASSUME and that makes you WRONG. Get to know the difference between a love of money and money. God gives us the power to attain wealth.

Did you see where Abraham, Issac, Jacob, Joseph, David, Solomon were hurting financially? Abraham was asked to leave one place because he was so wealthy and he started out with nothing. Solomon asked for wisdom and he got wisdom and revelation and he attained above and beyond.

What don't you get about this? What did you do - take some vow of poverty? Poverty is a curse! And Jesus redeemed us from the curse. God tells us to bless others, so we must have a lot left over after our own needs (not wants) are met. So now tell me what I HATE to recognize? God is my Source for everything and that includes money. He gives me wisdom, He opens doors that no one can close, He gives me favor with man.

"But seek you FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD, and His righteousness; and ALL THESE THINGS shall be added unto you."

"The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts." Haggai 2:8

Remember, GOD owns it all! So what part of serving two masters don't you get now? You love the one and hate the other. Where is YOUR focus? On God/His Kingdom or on money?

Glenn Beck has been anus-friendly for a long time. In my opinion, he sucks up to the gaystapo because he's afraid he'll get the Dr. Laura treatment if he doesn't.

That is the main reason I have absolutely no use for him. He's a coward and a sell-out.

Until we remove abortion, gay rights, etc off the table at a national level we will NEVER win another national election.

Try it and see what happens.

Of course, anyone with a brain knows what will happen. The GOP will lose catastrophically because the people who make the phone calls, donate $100, pound the pavement, knock on doors, and hold house parties for the GOP are all pro-life, pro-marriage, religious conservatives. Without us, the GOP wins nothing anywhere.

Because what you said didn’t make any sense, or have any relevance, except in regards to your/our religion, not the law.

If my/our religion could make the laws for America, then homosexual marriage and polygamy would be impossible, but that isn’t what we are discussing.

Fair enough. What does NORTH CAROLINA do to protect the decision of North Carolina voters at referendum or initiative as the case may have been? Without federal intervention, does NORTH CAROLINA have to roll over and play dead for the Massachusetts pervert carpetbaggers?

If the lavender queens can force states against the will of those states' voters expressed at statewide referendum or initiative to accept the perversions of the carpetbagger lavenders posing as "marriage," you can count on fudgepacker couples being recruited to marry in Massachusetts or similar pervert-friendly states and move into every resistant state.

Then the 14th Amendment arguments will ensue claiming that states such as North Carolina will have to treat their native perverts as generously as they treat the Massachusetts carpetbagger perverts.

Next up: Dog and cat lovers! Polygamy! Twelvesomes! Incest! AND Lazarus Long will be his own grandpa!

He doesn't get it. If he wants the govt. to get completely out of regulating marriage, he'd have to change 10,000 laws and regs in 50 states and eliminate all marriage-based benefits, including those related to taxation, property, insurance, survivors' rights of all kinds, liability for debts, custody of/responsibility to children, etc.

Well, if Beck were being consistent here, he'd call for the govt to get 100% out of...
(a) Holding dead-beat dads accountable;
(b) Putting up safety nets, financial & otherwise, for broken homes

'CAUSE IF THE GOVT DIDN'T HAVE TO FUND THE AFTERMATH OF WHATEVER MARITAL MESSES MEN (& WOMEN) MAKE, THEN HE COULD AT LEAST CONSIDER BRINGING UP THE QUESTIONS HE'S MAKING.

But BECAUSE the govt is heavily financially invested in making marriage & family work, then, yes, it has a right to speak into how marriages work to benefit the family.

Experimental families = more broken families. Experimental "unions" = more broken covenants.

And families LOSE in the process.

So go ahead Beck. Go ahead FREEPER surfer. Be consistent. Start telling the govt to get out of holding dead-beat dads accountable; get out of the business of putting up safety nets for broken marriages & broken homes.

Divest yourself, Uncle Sam of these investments, and thereby rid yourself of practical considerations as to why it's important to you that marriages & families remain healthy.

The point has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with gay marriage - it is 100% about why is the government involved in our lives at this level!!! Solve that and all this BS goes away. That is why the DEMS love to do this stuff... decisive issues that split us. Get the government out of our lives and let people do what they want,

Post #479 is for u. You've later indicated in another post that treating abortion and homosexuality at the national levels hurts the GoP.

Well, be consistent if you want the govt out of our lives...start preaching to all the economically challenged divorced moms out there that they're just going to have to permanently do without divorced dads' income 'cause the govt doesn't care about what makes for a healthy family & they just aren't going to hold deadbeat dads accountable anymore.

Oh...and tell those Moms you've also advocated that 100% of their safety nets be removed...Hey, you want the govts out of their lives...and since the govt can't have a say in what constitutes a healthy marriage/family, hey, they can just 100% be removed from footing the bills of men that can't keep a marriage/family together.

(That'll win over a LOT of independents & Dems...this 2016 "strategy" of yours!)
