Michigan Capital Confidential ^ | 12/11/12 | Audrey Spalding and Jarrett Skorup

Students suffer because 'several hundred' teachers call in sick to attend right-to-work protest in Lansing.

At least 26,000 children will miss school today because their teachers called in sick or took a vacation day to protest proposed right-to-work legislation, which is expected to pass today.

Warren Consolidated Schools, Taylor School District and Fitzgerald Public Schools are confirmed to be closed. It is also suggested that schools in Detroit and St. Johns may be missing a significant number of teachers...

When they win they crow about it.

When they lose they cry about it.

Government-employee labor unions are the USA’s Communist Party.

Other than the parents having to deal with the kids being home (rather than being brainwashed), it seems to me that they’re doing the kids a favor by letting them stay out of those institutions, at least for one day.

Obviously, they have greater allegiance to the union than to the children and communities they are supposed to be serving.

judging by the election results, I'd say there are a lot of communists that don't work for the government. jus sayin.

Very interesting numbers.

Mitchell poll: Michigan voters favor right-to-work, 51-41

A strong majority (56 percent) of non-union households support right-to-work. Support among union households is only at 40 percent.

I've been figuring between 30 and 40 percent of union members support it. Probably closer to 90% around here but this is a whole different planet than Detroit or Flint.

Those teachers still have the right to work and DO NOT have to belong to the union. Cry babies, all of them. Actually, the teachers got a “raise” in TAKE HOME pay by not having to pay union dues.

I have a good friend who attended West Point, served 6 years in the Army, then worked as an electrical engineer in the electronics industry for a few years. She woke up one day and decided she wanted to teach, here in Florida. State authorities didn’t think much of the idea since she had not been “indoctrinated” by a university to become a teacher. Never the less, she took their required courses and was soon certified to teach multiple subjects. A middle school quickly picked her up, probably because she could fill any position, unlike some of her “peers” who taught subjects for years without being certified in them. Anyway, she’s been teaching for about 8 years now. I wish our kids had more teachers like her.

In another news article we have:
Not surprisingly, the UAW comes out and says right to work is wrong for Michigan. But they aren't worried about losing members, says UAW Vice President Cindy Estrada. Th UAW already operates facilities in right-to-work states, such as Texas, and employees opting to join the union remain high.
The most likely reason why UAW can operate in right-to-work states, is that they can apply pressure on the Michigan-based auto companies to tell suppliers in other states that acceptance of the UAW is a condition of doing business with them. But if the UAW loses its power in Michigan, it will create a cascading effect elsewhere.

Only 2 counties actually passed proposition 2 which would have forever eliminated any chance of RTW in Michigan and created an unelected union superlegislature that could veto anything they didn't like.

Its the dirty little secret the unions aren't talking about. They angered the people with their election eve power grab attempt and were defeated 60/40.

Neighborhood homeschool coops is the way to go. Shut the union down and shut them out. Don’t let a damn one of them near your kids.

I am looking into this now for this area. And there are MANY parents who are at their wit’s end with the public schools. Recruit your neighbors and take your children back.

When I was in college, the lowest gpa students were teaching students, and in some classes we were forced to be graded on a curve because they would have flunked out otherwise. It was aggravating as hell.
