On Monday, Research Director of the Independence Institute David Kopel appeared on CNNs Piers Morgan Tonight to debate the issue of gun-related violence with Piers and Josh Horwitz from the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence.
In the video below, you can see the debate unfold. Whats most telling in this exchange is Morgans admission that he, personally, would like to Remove every gun in America.
Of course, what preceded this statement only seconds earlier was the perfunctory disclaimer, which is often made by those who secretly wish to pass onerous gun laws, I do have a respect for the Second Amendment.
So, obviously, theres a clear contradiction here, on one hand, Morgan (if he had his wish) would confiscate every gun in America, but on the other he claims to have respect for a law-abiding citizens Constitutional right to keep and bear arms.
Piers, you cant have it both ways. You clearly do not respect the Second Amendment if youre true stance is pro-confiscation.

There are two points other points to be made about this debate. The first is that the proliferation of gun ownership in America has not led to an increase in gun-related violence. Kopel pointed this out. And its true.
The most recent study to elucidate this fact, as Kopel alluded to, was the study done in Virginia that examined crime data and gun sales from 2006 to 2011 and found a negative relationship between gun sales, which increased 73 percent over those five years and gun-related violent crimes, which fell by 24 percent over the same period.

Though, because the study doesnt compute with Morgans preconceptions about guns and crime, he called it a load of absolute claptrap.

Do you think he knows how stupid he sounds?
Piers Morgan IS a walking, talking, ignorant, load of absolute claptrap.
I never trusted that Paul Giamatti guy. /s
Thanks--did not know this tidbit of history.
Excellent comment...and they also figured to grab Sam Adams and John Hitchcock who were laying low out there too.
He’s just a typical Euroweenie liberal. I still remember Uncle Ted (Nugent) taking him apart not long ago. It was delicious.
I've been saying that very thing about zero for five years.
Typical arrogant Brit lecturing us `ignorant Yanks’ just like the Redcoat general who roared “Disperse, ye rebels!” at the Lexington bridge.
That turned out just swimmingly, didn’t it, old chap?
;^)
>>Thats why hes a SUBJECT and were citizens<<
Oligarchy:
a form of government in which all power is vested in a few persons or in a dominant class or clique; government by the few.
I submit, we’ve lost our citizenship and have become lorded over.
Our representatives (a few exceptions) only become humble around election time. They act as royalty rather than servants of the people.
Post of the thread.
British assholes ARE the reason we have a 2nd. Amendment.
Tell Piers when he comes personally for my guns he better bring his lunch.
See his Wiki entry. This guy has no shame as long as he is raking in the dough-ray-me.
Removing Piers Morgan? Fairly straight forward proposition.
Also tell him to make it something you like for lunch.
lol. in less than 8 years you texans will be all speaking spanish in a heavy blue state.
Piers Morgan needs to be removed from America.
go back to England and feel adequately protected, by the police, from the Muslim scourge there ...
...plus the benefits for you of lots of bone smugglers and turd burglars
Better, remove Piers Morgan and send him back to the UK. Still better, send him to Saudi Arabia — on permanent assignment.
Yes, but never forget that the dems are the "party of science," and conservatives are superstitious, knuckle dragging Neanderthals.
I love luring libs into that assertion, then attacking them with the stats from every serious study of the effects of firearm ownership on crime, and/or the irrefutable science that a unique organism is created at conception.
They tend to become a little less "scientific" on those points.
