This version of "Everybody's Jumpin'" is a jazz instrumental of "Everybody's Comin'; Everybody's Jumpin'", the overture to "The Real Ambassadors", a jazz musical developed and scored by Dave and Iola Brubeck in the late 1950s and early 1960s, in collaboration with Louis Armstrong and his band. It was an effort which involved the first international "cultural exchange" programs sponsored by the U.S. government and the Kennedy Administration. A type of unmasked propaganda, to be sure, but the success of exporting American Jazz to the world opened many doors heretofore closed to diplomacy.
In writing the musical, the Brubecks drew upon experiences they and their friends and colleagues had touring various parts of the world on behalf of the U.S. State Department. The Brubecks and Armstrong (among many other musicians such as Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Goodman, and Duke Ellington) were part of a campaign by the State Department to spread American culture and music around the world during the Cold War, especially into countries whose allegiances were not well defined or that were perceived as being at risk of aligning with the Soviet Union. Fittingly, The Real Ambassadors was about the important role that musicians play as unofficial ambassadors for their countries and addressed the U.S. Civil Rights Movement, the music business, Americas place in the world during the Cold War, the nature of God and a number of other themes. It was set in a fictional African nation called Talgalla, and the central character was based on Louis Armstrong who became known as Jazz Ambassador to the world as a direct result. I hope to post the entire soundtrack recorded in September and December of 1961, featuring Brubeck and Armstrong, bassist Gene Wright and drummer Joe Morello from Dave's Quartet, The Louis Armstrong band (including trombonist Trummy Young and pianist Billy Kyle); vocal group Lambert, Hendricks & Ross; as well as vocalist Carmen McRae.
The Brubeck's musical brought both delight and controversy, but stands historically as one of the Jazz world's finest moments in stepping to the center of the world stage and putting the spotlight on the politics of freedom and democracy and it broke down many of the racial and ethnic barriers not just in the U.S. but Worldwide. It's still stands as one of Dave's proudest achievements.

Here's another instrumental version of a song from The Real Ambassadors. Dave often performed selections from the musical on albums and in concert, especially "You Swing Baby" (The Duke) and "Summer Song".

I’m gonna get drunk tonight. The music is plentiful and great enough. I’ve worked my butt off for several weeks and even helped the HOA lady today with all the lamp fixtures in the neighborhood.

Composing and performing The Real Ambassadors was a real labor of love for Dave and his wife Iola. Conceived in 1956, The Real Ambassadors took its first steps in 1961, when Dave Brubeck, Louis Armstrong and their bands came together with Carmen McRae and the top jazz vocal group of all time, Lambert, Hendricks and Ross to record the score. It was performed only once in concert version, by Dave, Louis and the album cast with Iola narrating at the 1962 Monterrey Jazz Festival and was a smash hit.
Louis Armstrong was among the first of the jazz greats to carry the idea of the American Dream to foreign lands as an Ambassador of Good Will and representative of our government. Ironically, at home those same ambassadors were unable to experience the rights and privileges inherent in Americas core belief that all people are created equal.
The Real Ambassadors was born of Dave and Louis shared belief in equality for all and the utter refusal to tolerate racial discrimination in their own lives. Set in the early 1960s, the show chronicles the adventures of a fictional version of Louis Armstrong and his band touring the world as Ambassadors of Good Will for the U.S.A.
The Brubecks skillfully built a fantasy around an actual event that occurred during Armstrongs tour in Africa. In Leopoldville, tribes painted themselves in Armstrongs honor and carried him on an improvised chaise lounge. His acceptance there may safely be said to have exceeded that of any foreign diplomat before or since. (From original liner notes.)
