Sen. Jim DeMint to Head Heritage Foundation (leaving US Senate in January)
WSJ ^

Posted on 12/06/2012 7:31:44 AM PST by Perdogg

South Carolina U.S. Senator Jim DeMint will replace Ed Feulner as president of the Heritage Foundation. Mr. DeMint will leave his post as South Carolina's junior senator in early January to take control of the Washington think tank, which has an annual budget of about $80 million.

Sen. DeMint's departure means that South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, a Republican, will name a successor, who will have to run in a special election in 2014. In that year, both Mr. DeMint's replacement and Sen. Lindsey Graham will be running for reelection in South Carolina.

Exactly what I am thinking. The GOP is finished. DeMint sees it.

No the ‘Rats aren’t strong here...but they are smart. They will run a canidate with a good background that will bash Nikki Haley and espouse “Converative” views. Promise to run as a Moderate and then bingo. A Democrat gov. would bow to Obama.

Are democRATs really that strong in SC?

It's easier to understand if you think in terms of conservatives vs. ruling class, rather than Dem and Repub.

SC is one of the top states my husband and I are considering moving to "someday". I'm *really* hoping South Carolina stays RED! ;-)

The Upstate beckons you. At the foot of the mountains and a morning's drive to the beach. Columbia's awfully hot.

DeMint has seen not the "writing on the wall"; rather he has seen the "programming in the voting machines."

He knows that the Lib fix is in forever, and is looking for a way to get enough money so that it does not matter to him and his family.

Maybe we don’t follow Jim DeMint very closely.

He has stated that he was not a professional Washington politician and did not want to seek that out as a career.

The end was coming to his time in the Senate.

His thought, like that of many solid conservatives, is that SOMEBODY ELSE NEEDS TO STAND UP and do their duty and be a solid conservative, serve, and go home.

ONLY by getting the ball rolling on that idea will we ever see Washington DC not RUN COMPLETELY by elitists and lobbyists who buy and sell career politicians.

The hope of Truth and justice can not rest on one man.

I am so sick and tired of political types with their “must win” “must win” “must win” “must win” mentality like Ann Coulter. It does absolutely no good at all to WIN if the winner is a weasel with an R by his name.

SC, time to go get another great conservative to run, you can do it.

Who does NOT want to be a career politician.

Git’er done.

"Are democRATs really that strong in SC?

Not yet but their fortunes are improving. The last two presidential elections, the state has gone 55-45 for the GOP, but there is anecdotal evidence of change. First, consider demographics. Out of staters are moving to the Upstate, Low Country, Columbia, and Myrtle Beach in great numbers for jobs and retirement. They too often bring their Up East or West Coast liberalism with them. The next issue is the GOP itself. In SC the GOP has become the party of tax, spend, corruption and nepotism. Boss Hogg politics at its best. Couple these together and SC could be ripe for a shift in power to the Democrats come 2016. DeMints leaving could accelerate this.

Can’t say I blame him. Having to fight the dems every day in addition to McCain and Graham.... It had to be frustrating.

I’m observing 1 minute of silence, in sorrow for losing one of the _few_ remaining USAians in DC congress. Jim, you’re one of the great ones. USA is losing the battle of our lives, not lost yet, but...

DeMint just said “Harry Reid is a friend of mine:. He also said Harry Reid is not the problem.

I'm disgusted the Republicans are just too cozy with the Democrats who tell everyone how hateful and racists Republicans are, especially the Tea Party and DeMint doesn't take it personal. Then he is no conservative.

He can join the Heritage Foundation. I don't really care. They sent me two solicitations for money in the last few days. They are going in the trash.

I don't understand these guys in D.C.

I just heard Jim DeMint say he's GOOD FRIENDS with Harry Reid.

I'm sorry...maybe I'm wired different..but I'm pretty sure I couldn't be good friends with a guy like Harry Reid that say's the things he says, and does the things he does.

That said...In the hidden places in my mind..I can't shake the thoughts...that nearly ALL these guy's are in on the "rope-a-dope..and good cop, bad cop" of the American people........................

FWIW-

I had so hoped DeMint could replace the spineless Turtle McChinless. I’m hard pressed to know of anyone else in the Senate who can hold the line against the Dim tidal wave of crap.

I heard it too and turned Rush off until DeMint is off. I can’t stand most of the Republicans anymore.

Fox Business just announced that Harry Reid is trying to arrange a vote on the debt ceiling at 2pm today in response to”a serious offer” from McConnell. I wonder if we are about to get another dose of the GOP working with Reid?

"Not a good sign at all. DeMint is far smarter than the average bear. Obviously he has assessed the lay of the land and determined that if he stays in the Senate he is going to be awash in Leftist chuckleheads and GOP quislings for the rest of his natural life."

That's my take. At some point when we reach full totalitarianism (not far away), he will probably move to Costa Rico or Bermuda or Cayman. Switzerland is now gone with their policies to give other countries access to private accounts.
