"Girl's verse commemorating grandfather's military service included the word "God"
A school district in North Carolina has been given a deadline to affirm that it will not censor a students speech, or a legal team assembled by the Alliance Defending Freedom will seek a remedy to the problem.
The issue arose several days ago when the school district told a first-grade student that a poem commemorating her grandfathers military service could not include the word God, because one member of the community didnt like it.
But in a letter sent from ADF to the McDowell County Schools in Marion, N.C., the lawyers pointed out that the censorship was a violation of her First Amendment rights.
A first-grader at the school was told that she had to remove references to God in a poem she wrote to honor her grandfathers service to our country during the Vietnam War, the letter said. In her poem, she had included the lines He prayed to God for peace, he prayed to God for strength, to describe the historical actions of her grandfathers during the war. However, after a community member complained about the inclusion of the students poem in a Veterans Day Ceremony, the school forced her to remove the lines.
ADF told the school its .....

Particularly infuriating is the school’s note that it has assigned multiple attorneys to this case, plus teachers and administrators. Hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars of OUR MONEY being spend by these people to help Obama “fundamentally transform” the U.S.
51%? I don’t care if it’s 100% minus her. If that’s her faith, and she wants to express it in her commemorative poem, that’s her RIGHT.
The administrators who censored her should be compelled to write a comprehensive essay on “offense, tolerance and diversity”.
This is the 2nd article in a few days about Foothills educators
in NC being incredibly stupid.
The other article was about a community college admin wanting
“Men at work” signs removed from the campus due to diversity issues.
I hope the liberalism of Asheville isn’t seeping of mountains.
Edit: I hope the liberalism of Asheville isnt seeping OUT of mountains
I’d like to have a meeting with some of these people out behind the shed sometime, if you get my drift.
As usual, the press’ account identifies the guilty party as the “school district”. I want to know exactly who in the school district made the decision, who approved the decision, who actually told the school to have the poem revised, and who at the school didn’t have the guts to tell the “school district” to go to hell. I also want to know exactly which member of the community made the initial complaint, or was that just a slick alias the “school district” used to justify making that call.
This state used to be full of very conservative people, mostly Democrats, but conservative. Somewhere along the way the communists and other assorted socialists decided to hide out from McCarthy by becoming Democrats. They even picked a new description for themselves so they wouldn’t be confused with the original conservative base. They became Progressives and under cover of party affiliation they took over control of most school operations, from the state down to local districts. It’s just sad that there are still so many hard heads around who keep voting them in, year after year, and never bother to look at what they are doing to the state.
Just goes to show you that I'm getting really old. I remember an America when the MAJORITY ruled, NOT the minority!!
The attack on Christianity and religion, in general, by soulless liberals is increasing. That tells me that we need to "cling to our guns and religion" even tighter and FIGHT BACK!!!!
This is disgusting.
>> It is too bad that people refuse to get involved and get back to the way it used to be.
It seems to me that life/society seems to be blasting away every attempt to correct with “you can’t do anything.”
The retort I posted was intended only to get rid of the offending twit. When the nitwit returns, other suggestions can be thrown out in order for any consideration of the nitwits proposal. Keep making them jump through hoops. It’s a sort of forced education process. Negative reinforcement if you will.
If 49% of the community object to handing out condoms they would be ignored and ridiculed!!
But one guy can quash the speech a little child during non-school hours?

I am still trying to determine, from their POV, whether the little girl is a state or a church.
Even if she got help...it’s the spirit of the event. Good for her family in not letting the recognition of one of our soldiers pass.
These people would have censored these Japanese Americans in internment camps. Here is a sampling of poems written in 1945 by American teenagers in an internment camp in Arizona:

To that one member of the 'community"- if you don't like it, do like we conservatives do when morons like you spew your anti-God venom; shake your head and ignore it!
“..Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and John Adams were also strong advocates and supporters...”
they were advocates of good education including use of the Bible - they were not atheists by any stretch of the imaginations.
And if people accept that answer nothing will get done. Did Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Adams etc.... accept that answer? America gets what it tolerates.
So get elected to a school board, drum up support, and get your voice heard.
Amazing. School officials that have no cell or home phones. /s
Actually, what is truly amazing is how far down this road of "separation of church and state" we have allowed ourselves to come. The first amendment constrains the Federal congress and nothing else. Public state schools are free to do what they will when it comes to religious issues but have allowed themselves to be cow-towed into submission to the secular forces of today's society. Religious people of all denominations had better start putting their feet down and reversing this or as Ronald Reagan put it: "If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a nation gone under."

Good point; but let me ask: at what point has the line been crossed? IOW, at what point would a significant portion (i.e. a group, not statistical outliers) consider armed retaliation/violence against government’s agents/properties to be just? Do you recall the guy (Story, IIRC) who flew his plane into the IRS building some years ago?
Another thing that works against us is the legal-system. Take, for instance, firearm restrictions: I have lived in two states where government restriction of arms was strictly forbidden by their state Constitutions (NM & SD); yet, both states have statute or rules that prohibit firearms from courthouses... these laws/rules apparently cannot be challenged without breaking them — this means that you are placed into a position of weakness: the accused saying “but the accusation is immaterial because the Constitution prohibits it” which will be laughed out of court due to ‘precedence’ *spit* or “common sense reading” of the law.
Yes I do recall it. I can't give you a specific point. but I can say it has been crossed when a significant/ sufficient number of people are willing to do something. I am not sure if it was on this thread but my father got on the school board 40 years ago over a transportation issue. When he got it changed he finished his term and went back to being a regular citizen. He was respected enough that for a number of years after the superintendent would call him up to get his feelings on various issues.

Well that is one way to approach it via jury nullification. The other is to get a number of legislators to change the law.
