SAN DIEGO The man who planned to be president wakes up each morning now without a plan.
Mitt Romney looks out the windows of his beach house here in La Jolla...He devours news from 2,600 miles away in Washington about the "fiscal cliff" negotiations, shaking his head and wondering what if.
Gone are the minute-by-minute schedules and the swarm of Secret Service agents. There's no aide to make his peanut butter and honey sandwiches. Romney hangs around the house, sometimes alone, pecking away at his iPad and emailing his CEO buddies, who've been swooping in and out of La Jolla to visit. He wrote to one who's having a liver transplant soon: "I'll change your bedpan, take you back and forth to treatment."

The defeated Republican nominee has practically disappeared from public view since his loss, exhibiting the same detachment that made it so difficult for him to connect with the body politic through six years of running for president. He has made no public comments since his concession speech in the early hours of Nov. 7, and avoided the news media last week during a private lunch with President Barack Obama at the White House. Through an aide, Romney declined an interview request for this story.
After Romney told his wealthy donors that he blamed his loss on "gifts" Obama gave to minority groups, his functionaries were unrepentant and Republican luminaries effectively cast him out. Few of the policy ideas he promoted are even being discussed in Washington.

By all accounts, the past month has been most difficult on Romney's wife, Ann, who friends said believed up until the end that ascending to the White House was their destiny. They said she has been crying in private and trying to get back to riding her horses.

No more Romney bashing! Hes gone. Dead. Lets leave him alone.
I'll continue to Bash Romney, and McCain, and every other d#mbsh#t member of the GOPE until the point is hammered home that Conservatives should compromise their values or principles just because the the GOPE and the media tells us 'this is who is electable.'
Spineless unprincipled, GOPE, weasels are not electable and it appears many are unable to grasp that concept. Which, is why the Bob Doles, Juan McCains, and Myth Romneys keep getting nominated. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results.
Defending the Romneys in the party and refusing to acknowledge he was a terrible candidate only sets us up to fail yet again.
Romney wasn't gone in 2008 and I doubt he'll be completely gone after 2012.
But, you, you are a "Repeat Offender." ;-)
Lol. Actually in this instance I am a ROINO (Repeat Offender In Name Only). I voted for and supported McCain in 2008. Fool me once.......I wasn't fooled this time.
The difference between Romney and 0bama is merely haggling over price.
You notice that no one levels the "liar!" accusations at those who point out Romney's foundation of record, which was by any reckoning very pro-gay, very pro-state-controlled health care, accepting of on-demand tax-funded abortions, pro environmentalist global warming agenda to control industry and progress. Progress, the ultimate manifestation of freedom. Romney was a functional liberal Democrat in every way.
Their only arrow is, "Obama is worse!"
A party that accepts him is not "my" Republican party. What is the point of being a Republican if guys like Romney are "okay"?
At least Romney can define the limit, whether it means demanding his resignation from the Republican party (fat chance) or, perhaps the only way to ditch him, going third party. The guy is a vampire, kind of like the terminator. Don't kid yourself -- if he remains viable in the GOP, you'd better be figuring him to run again. God knows what Democrat would be so anti-American liberal socialist to face him, but count on that, too.
Romney is just such bad news. He really is.
Amen!
I started reading your post but couldn’t finish. So sorry. Not all is lost however you’ve a special talent to be both hysterical and boring.
“Me thinks the lady does protest too much”.
Me thinks the Romney supporter has zero arguments and therefore has to rely on calling RO "both hysterical and boring." And not even the first one on this thread forced to resort to it. The behavior of Romney supporters defines the essence of their guy.
Hey Finny I didn’t even argue with your position that in the past Romney was weak. I stated his positions at the RNC were right on target ...his pick of Paul Ryan was a good one. And I still believe his 5 point plan to revive the economy was quite good.
Lastly I said he was too decent for these times. Meaning that a thug like Obama and a hack like Harry Reid could accuse him of murder and tax evasion and a complicit media would just go along and Romney was too decent to even comprehend the level of depravity the thug machine was saying.
Because of that your “pal” Repeat Offender ..who ever he/she quoted me and called me depraved without having the guts to ping me directly....so I called him/her on it and that should have been enough. Noo....more juvenile and hysterical BS from the both of you. ...and why are you getting involved in this anyway? Just to start it up with people?
I assume RO is a big boy who can defend him/herself and doesn’t need your help and if he does he’s better off not quoting posters in the first place.
You are both correct, of course.
I was, in particular, considering his morals/family life.
0bama’s family ‘life’ is a sham.
Thanks for making my point. In your original post you stated another poster said that.
I made a comment to Finny about your straw man (not you) and you got butt hurt over it.
If you want to be pinged about a statement you made....have the intestinal fortitude to attribute the statement to yourself....don't create a straw man and get pissed off you weren't pinged over a statement about your imaginary friend.
Noo....more juvenile and hysterical BS from the both of you.
I seem to recall you getting hysterical because I called your straw man depraved. You also tried to falsely attribute my statements to "all Romney supporters." If you would've taken credit for YOUR statement I would have pinged you to ensure YOU understood I was talking about you.
Talk about trying to stir up trouble on a thread.....
I disagree with the premise. Republicans who continue to think that Romney would have been just fine, are not conservatives. It's not about courtesy pings and "hysteria," it's about identifying the lengths that folks are driven to go to justify Romney and thereby leaving him still in play.
The only things folks like Irish can do when challenged is to cite what Romney said. Actions speak more truly than words; in action, Romney has been a liberal Democrat. Republicans who can't perceive that aren't conservatives.
Whether you voted for him or not, agreeing that Romney is OUT and should always have been out is a bedrock issue, as far as I'm concerned. So soundly bedrock that it's looking like the only way to ditch the gangrene Romney symptomizes in the GOPe is to go third party. I don't like it any better than either of you, but facts is facts. Romneyitis has to be ditched.
But establishing groundrule principles is just too "hysterical" an undertaking, I guess.
Finny, not one Romneybot has been able to answer the questions I've posted previously. "Principles" are little more than a punch line in a joke for too many Stupid Party supporters.
What's worse is they can't understand how the dems can try to be all things to all people - gays and muslims, Catholics and abortionists etc.......but then they turn around and expect the base to be exactly that FOR the stupid party.
The party works for and represents us.....not the other way around. We work for the party (to get them elected) when they demonstrate they'll represent us and do the people's work.
I guess some folks think of politics like college football. They never went to that school, nor do they live in that state - they just like them because they do. They don't support the candidate, nor does he represent anything they claim to believe in, but he's "their guy."
