NBC's Todd Cites 'Very Smart' WH Aide Claiming With Today's GOP 'There'd Still Be Slavery'

Appearing on Monday's MSNBC Morning Joe, NBC chief White House correspondent Chuck Todd shared some inside information: "So I threw the Lincoln analogy at a close aide to the President last week, and he said, 'You know, with this Republican – with the way politics of Washington are today, there'd still be slavery.' That Lincoln wouldn't have been able to navigate the polarization..."

Rather than dismiss such a nasty partisan attack, Todd observed: "It was an interesting and depressing observation from this very smart White House aide."

Sometimes I think we would have been better off by halting the expansion of slavery and letting it die a natural death. It was already on its way to becoming too expensive for the south and they would have eventually driven their own slaves away to make their own way in the world.

Unfortunately slavery taught them dependency which exposed itself with those who followed Sherman across the south. They had become like lifelong prison inmates afraid of freedom. Sadly the democrats took advantage of the situation and returned them to the political plantation.

The GOP was founded PRECISELY for the purpose of ending slavery. What an idiot.

When the GOP was founded, we were against slavery; and we still are.

Entitlements = slavery

Probably true. The republicans had to go that road alone, without help from the demonrats.

Today would be no different, except that there aren't that many principled republicans who hold freedom and liberty among their values worth fighting for.

They are quite willing to sell us out and into indentured servitude to them. Todd stumbled into a right answer.

Pardon my blatent racism, but the current bunch sucking at the taxpayer trough isn’t qualified to pick cotton or do any other meaningful productive labor.

Truth hurts, therefore, the continuous screeching.

The NBC reporter is an idiot. Lincoln was not able to broker a deal on slavery. When negotiations broke down, the south receded and we fought the Civil War.

My grandfather’s grandfather was a founding member of the New York Anti-slavery Republicans and a member of Seward’s Pets, unit of the US Army and recruiter. He was also the District Attorney in Cayuga County, who is credited with ending the practice of water torture at Sing Sing prison following the death of a Black prisoner who died of hypothermia while being punished for some minor offense.

And with today’s Democratic party we would either be digging potatoes on a frozen collective for sustenance under the banner of Lenin or squatting on our haunches to relieve ourselves INTO our source of water outside a hut in Somalia.

There’s a certain unintended truth in that remark.

The Democrats are, and always have been, the party of slavery. And the today’s GOP Establishment is only too happy to cooperate with the Democrats, for a share of the loot.

“He’s not taking the response to this on Twitter very well:

@chucktodd Good ole Twitter, folks doing their usual, if you REPORT something, then you must believe it too. Whatever...”

Poor F. Chuck Todd. He’s been practicing yellow journalism for so long, he doesn’t even recognize it anymore.

I don’t tweet, but here’s a hint for Chuckie.... HOW you report something is just as, if not more important that WHAT you report. By calling the aide “very smart” Chuckie gives validity to the statement.

G - D media. IF there is a CWII, I’m going hunting at the nearest media outlet.

> The pea brain doesn’t know history.

Rest assured. They know the history.

They are actively “deconstructing” it and rewriting it.

Right out of Saul Alinski’s playbook.

I’m sometimes asked, as a Civil War buff, to explain my attraction to the period. I usually reply with a line I heard years ago, “That’s the last time it was legal to shoot democrats. “

No offence meant to the moonlight and magnolia brigade here at FR, but there’s something to the sentiment.

I get tired of having to remind people that George Wallace was a democrat, Lester Maddox was a democrat, Bull Conner was a democrat, Bull Conner’s dogs were democrats, and every Ku Kluxer who ever soiled a sheet was a democrat.

But this WH aide is “too smart” to have bothered to learn any history.

TRUE all that too.

Espically: """Entitlements = slavery""""....

What was all the fighting for, all those dead white boys, north and south, all the demolished Southern cities, all for nothing, they have proved themselves UNWORTHY of all the sacrifices.

You know, with this Republican – with the way politics of Washington are today, there'd still be slavery.

Honestly, it's hard for me to think there are people either this stupid or this devious out there. Obviously there are, but it is truly amazing they can get away with this kind of talk.

Very well stated, and I agree completely.

That’s OK, with the way Democrats are today, there would still be witch burnings. After all, the State is Always Right.

What a curious statement! Does Chuck Todd know that Lincoln was a Republican? Does he know that the Republicans freed the slaves? Is Chuck Todd educated?

NBC's Todd Cites 'Very Smart' WH Aide Claiming With Today's GOP 'There'd Still Be Slavery' ,

He might have a point.

Old GOP: Democrats threaten to leave if a Republican is elected. Republican is elected anyway. Southern Democratic states leave. Hundreds of thousands of soldiers on both sides are killed in a war to bring them back into the Union without slavery.

New GOP: Democrats talk sternly and the GOP buckles like a cheap umbrella in a heavy wind. Democrats get their way.

Transport the current batch back to 1860 and you'd get them shedding tears rather than fighting.
